Depp is still gorgeous and takes away almost every scene of his own, although the film is generally not fixated on him, but on the character played by Maiwenn
By the way, the chemistry between the king and his favorite is really felt, and this is undoubtedly a plus
But still, there is some understatement, which was closed with an afterword and a beautiful final shot
Speaking of the picture. The film is full of static shots, mostly in the interiors of Versailles, but there are also quite unexpected solutions
Take at least "stairway to heaven"
Whoever watched it will understand what I mean.
In general, the film copes well with the main task – to give emotions, and this can not but please
- no. This is Versailles.
very beautifully, dramatically and deliciously filmed. Johnny, welcome back to the big screen!
I involuntarily compared this film with Marie Antoinette in 2006, where dubarry was shown more superficially and vulgarly. here, of course, the story has a different tone, and it is beautiful in its own way!
- This is crazy!
- No, this is Sparta. 🤜🏃♂️
Comical, ridiculing the mannerisms of elites, nobility and pure blood, the film shows well that it is enough just to be and remain human. The picture is good, the plot also does not lag behind, a dramatic note is felt, biography and history - unfortunately, I am not enlightened here.
In general, the conclusion can be drawn as follows: you can watch it, but it's not up to me to decide whether it will come in or not.
I'll explain. Upon Jeanne's arrival, we can see a panorama of Versailles, a huge monumental structure, which feels like it will take a couple of hours just to make an external detour. But the very action of the painting takes place literally in three pavilions, which makes the sense of volume disappear.
It's as if we are not in the residence of the king, but in an apartment from the Voronina sitcom, with a couple of rooms and slightly changing decorations in each new scene. All that is missing is for Johnny Depp to periodically say: "Monarchical power!", for absolutely complete authenticity.
Johnny himself is wonderful! But I couldn't get rid of the feeling that he was still thinking about the trial somewhere. Even Pierre Richard's character looks lively, and the king is literally a misanthrope. Stingy with emotions, with an eternal sad smile and faded eyes. Clearly not the type you expect to see when Johnny Depp comes to the fore.
Well, court life, of course, also raises questions. It is clear that the film sought to show a satire on the mores of that society. Somewhere to ridicule, somewhere to exaggerate, somewhere to show the absurdity of what is happening.
But with all due respect, I very much doubt that in the presence of the king, anyone would dare to gaslight the favorite so clearly. At the same time, these same people come every morning to cajole the ruler, making obsequious curtsies, then to sift through the clumsy moonwalk to the exit. These are just mutually exclusive things.
The ending is also quite strange. It all boils down to the thesis: Her body is a temple... Therefore, she will end her life in a monastery. Still, I probably wanted something else.
As a result, it's not bad, but it's not a masterpiece either. You can watch it and even have fun, but you obviously won't review it.
6/10
The actress who played Jeanne did not really like it, but in general the picture is colorful, the scenery is beautiful and the aftertaste is pleasant.
I enjoyed watching it.
Johnny Depp is gorgeous as always
