Miss Scarlet without the Duke: Stuart Martin has left the PBS series
Stuart Martin, who played the role of William "Duke" Wellington, has left the series "Miss Scarlet and the Duke". Martin will not return for the project's fifth season, and will now play the lead role with only Kate Phillips and the series will be renamed "Miss Scarlet".
"It has been such an incredible joy to bring Duke to life through Rachael’s beautiful, brilliant writing, and to get to play him for the past four years,” said Martin in a statement. “But it felt like the time was right for Scarlet to explore new stories and challenges for now, as the show continues to grow and evolve. I will miss working with my amazing partner in crime Kate and the rest of our brilliant family and team, but I’m excited to continue following Eliza and her escapades as a huge fan and newly enrolled Scarleteer!" — Stuart Martin said in a statement.
The series is about Eliza Scarlet, a young woman in Victorian London. Eliza has neither a husband to provide for her nor a job, so after the sudden death of her father, she urgently needs to come up with something. The girl starts working at her father's detective agency, but she still needs a male partner, so she turns to her old friend William Wellington — a gruff Scotland Yard inspector nicknamed The Duke.
The new season, according to Masterpiece, PBS executive producer Suzanne Simpson, will feature even more mystery, jokes, and romance. Filming for the fifth season has already begun in Serbia.

Which is an obvious truth and I would like to focus more on detective stories
Although on the other hand, if there is hope that Scarlett will finally move along the romantic line with new contenders, because so many seasons of "love" go nowhere, this is of course a pain for the viewer. And considering that now the series are closed just by clicking, then it's dangerous to delay the development of a love line like this, if the probability is that the series will not live to develop love.
