Korean director Park Chan-wook is working on an English-language TV adaptation of his thriller "Oldboy", which was released in 2003. Lionsgate Television Studios is responsible for producing the project.

"Park is one of the most visionary storytellers of our generation, and we’re excited to partner with him in bringing his cinematic masterpiece to the television screen. This series adaptation of ‘Oldboy’ will feature the raw emotional power, iconic fight scenes and visceral style that made the film a classic", — said Scott Herbst, Executive Vice President, Lionsgate Television.

The movie "Oldboy", directed and co-written by Park Chan-wook, is about a man who is held captive without explaining who kidnapped him or why. He is released after 15 years with money and a cell phone. Now he has to find out who is behind the mysterious kidnapping, and finally take cruel revenge on the unknown torturer.

The upcoming series will be the second English-language adaptation of the movie: in 2013, Spike Lee released a feature-length remake of "Oldboy", starring Josh Brolin. The movie received low critical acclaim and did not pay off at the box office.

It's a little scary for a new reading of the plot of your favorite movie (once again, and the first adaptation of 2013 can't even be compared) - the original is amazing, it doesn't look outdated. It is clear that they want to shoot the series for re-commercialization and reaching a new audience, but like Choi Min Sik, it seems to me, no one will play About Dae Soo anymore... The only thing that calms down a little is that the director will be the creator of the original film - he and his work in Hollywood were strong)
