The Plot That Dragged On
From the very beginning, the film plunges into a very disturbing and claustrophobic atmosphere. I saw the main character, John, who has just been dumped by a girl, and he seems to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. And that's when two mysterious sisters who live next door appear in his life. Their strange behavior, mind games, and constant hints of something sinister are slowly but surely beginning to destroy his already fragile reality.
I really liked how the film plays with perception. I was constantly sitting and wondering: is this really happening? Or is John just going crazy? This ambivalence, when you can't distinguish reality from hallucinations, kept me very much in suspense. The plot is really addictive with its dark intrigue and psychological pressure. He makes you constantly doubt and try to put together the pieces of the puzzle, even when everything starts to seem like complete nonsense. The atmosphere of madness and manipulation was conveyed very convincingly.
One Drawback: Long Scenes
However, there was one point that I honestly didn't like. I'm talking about some scenes of a sexual nature, which, in my opinion, were too long and explicit. I got the impression that their duration was specifically increased, perhaps to increase the running time of the film. I understand that in such a psychological thriller, sex can be an element of manipulation or an expression of despair, but here it sometimes seemed excessive and protracted. These moments, in my opinion, rather distracted from the main intrigue and suspense than added depth.
The overall Impression of the Plot
Despite this particular aspect, I was very impressed with the plot itself. The film skillfully explores the themes of mental disorder, loneliness, addiction and how easily a person can succumb to someone else's influence when his world is collapsing. The narrative, though confusing, led to a very powerful and memorable ending that made me think for a long time about what I had just seen.
"The Other Door" / "Naboer" is, of course, a very bold and atmospheric movie. It is not for the faint of heart and not for those who are looking for a simple entertaining movie. But if you're ready to plunge into a dark, psychologically intense world where reality is intertwined with a nightmare, then you'll probably enjoy the plot of this movie as much as I do, despite some redundant moments.
