A few months before the 1970 FIFA World Cup, Armin Dassler hired a journalist living in Rio de Janeiro, Hans Genningsen, whom he wanted to ask to lure more players, and especially Pele. However, Henningsen was ordered not to discuss the deal with Pele. This was explained by the fact that Armin and Horst (Adolf's son) had previously entered into a secret agreement, according to which they pledged not to poach football players from each other, as well as not to conclude a contract with Pele in order to avoid a jump in the amount of advertising contracts.
