From "Titanic" to "The Reader": 7 iconic Kate Winslet roles
"Heavenly Creatures"
Drama, Fantasy | 3.93 out of 5 on MyShows | 1994
Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey made their movie debut in Peter Jackson's psychological drama "Heavenly Creatures", based on the real-life 1954 Parker–Hulme murder case. The movie follows classmates Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme. The girls quickly become close, and this scares Pauline's mother, who wants them to stop communicating. Fearing separation, they decide to kill Pauline's mom.
Jackson considered almost 200 actresses for the role of Juliet, but debutante Winslet beat them all out. It's hard to believe that this was her first job in the movie: the actress, as noted by The Washington Post, shone in every scene.

"Sense and Sensibility"
Drama, romance | 4.21 out of 5 on MyShows | 1995
Kate Winslet earned her first Oscar nomination for her role as Marianne Dashwood in the film adaptation of Jane Austen's novel. In the story, Mrs. Dashwood and her daughters are forced to move from a luxurious mansion to a modest cottage after the death of Mr. Dashwood. Here passionate Marianne and her reserved sister Elinor will have to arrange their fate, opposing the strict rules of society of the time.
The revival of the popularity of Jane Austen's works is often associated with this movie. Emma Thompson helped director Ang Lee and actress Kate Winslet to bring Austen back to the screen — she not only played Elinor, but also wrote the screenplay, and won an Oscar for her work.

"Titanic"
Drama, romance | 4.4 out of 5 on MyShows | 1997
The movie that made Winslet a megastar: the world fell in love with the story of Jack (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose, who found love where they didn't expect it.
In the story, 100-year-old Rose recounts how she found herself on the sunken ship Titanic 84 years ago. In 1912, young Rose boards the posh liner with her mother, fiancé and other first-class passengers. Meanwhile, a drifter and artist named Jack Dawson and his best friend Fabrizio De Rossi win third-class tickets to the Titanic in a card game. During the voyage, Rose and Jack fall in love with each other, but their hopes are dashed by a gruesome accident.
"This is a great production with mind-blowing sets, plenty of references to real people and events on the ship, the problems of the purpose of existence, class inequality, the question of happiness and priorities are examined. The main characters are more like eyes with which we can view the whole epoch within the framework of one ship, going to its tragic fate. Separately I would like to mention the music, which gets to goosebumps. Especially the moments with the Titanic orchestra playing until the end", — ezcett.
"This is a one-of-a-kind movie that does not lose its resonance in people's souls when revisited. You already know the story from the beginning, nothing unexpected, but the emotions are as if it was the first time", — YuluaR.

Shy Joel is horrified to discover that the love of his life, the effervescent Clementine, has erased him and their relationship from his memory after a relationship breakup. Frustrated and angry, Joel wants to repay her in kind and also decides to undergo this complex medical procedure. With the memorable acting duo of Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey, Michel Gondry's masterful direction, and Charlie Kaufman's touching screenplay, it's no wonder that "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" has become a true cult classic.
"Interesting perspective on the changing relationships to each other over time," dust_space.
"Beautifully shot, all those colorful memory tosses in the main character deserve a huge bow to the graphic designers and other creative people who worked on the picture. In addition, I thought about the fact that moments lived with some people are damn important, you should not be in a hurry to burn bridges and should enjoy and cherish the moment, because hecan be truly beautiful and unique, but you'll probably only realize it when it's a piece of memory from the distant past", — g1291858.
"One of my favorite movies with my favorite actors. Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey are wonderful here. Jim Carrey with his acting was very impressive. It was unexpected and very cool to see him in a dramatic role", — SleepyFox.

The uptight Englishwoman Iris arrives in a posh Californian house, while the work-crazed American Amanda finds herself in a cozy British cottage.
An unexpected romcom among the social dramas in which Kate Winslet usually stars. In an interview, the actress admitted that she wanted to try something new and was delighted when Nancy Meyers offered her the role of Iris, but she was also very nervous. "Would I be able to be funny? Jude [Law] and I would often call before we started filming, 'Oh my God, they're going to fire us!' They're going to do a recast. What if we don't make them laugh?" we were really nervous about the whole thing", — Winslet shared.
As it turns out, there was no need to worry: Kate Winslet had a great performance and the movie made audiences fall in love with it, earning over $200 million.
"If you're in a bad or dreary mood during the New Year's holidays, this movie is just what you need to lift your spirits and heal some mental wounds", — LianaSkyfall.

Reunited after Titanic, Kate and Leo play a couple living in suburban Connecticut and raising two children. April has given up her dream of becoming an actress, Frank hates his job, and both are unhappy in their marriage. Hoping to sort out their problems, April suggests that Frank move to Paris.
Kate Winslet read the script for "Revolutionary Road", as well as the Richard Yates novel on which it is based, and became enamored with the idea of a screen adaptation. She offered her then-husband Sam Mendes to direct the movie, and then sent the script to longtime friend Leonardo DiCaprio, convincing him to play Frank. The result exceeded expectations: the picture was loved by critics, and Winslet's honest play gave her a Golden Globe.

"The Reader"
Drama, Romance | 4.26 out of 5 on MyShows | 2008
The movie is set in the late 1950s in post-war Germany. 15-year-old Michael Berg meets a strict conductor, Hanna, who is twenty years older than him, on a streetcar. A passionate but short-lived romance spins between them. Many years later, the couple meet again. Now Michael is a young lawyer, and Hanna is accused of being a concentration camp warden.
In 2008, two movies with Kate Winslet were released, and for one of them she finally received the long-awaited Oscar. However, Winslet starred in "The Reader" almost by accident: originally the role of Hannah played by Nicole Kidman. The actress became pregnant and, not wanting to risk the child, left the project, and a couple of days later her role was offered to Kate Winslet.
