"The Tree of Life"
Drama, fantasy | 3.38 out of 5 on MyShows | 2011
One of the most controversial and monumental films, for which director Terrence Malick received the Palme d'Or and three Oscar nominations. The picture tells about an ordinary American family from the 1950s. In the story, the eldest son Jack, having become an adult, remembers his childhood and especially his sometimes demanding and overly strict father.
A large-scale story of growing up, in which Terrence Malick was able to tell about the structure of the world. In the film, the life of the hero and the movement of the world around him are equalized, including visually: landscape plans, the play of light and the color of the sky are interested in Malick on a par (and often even more) frames with people.

Contrasting shots, a lot of symbolism, a minimum of dialogues and, of course, bright neon: in "The Neon Demon" the style of director Nicolas Winding Refn reached a visual climax. The picture received contradictory reviews, but it was definitely memorable and established Refn as one of the most extraordinary directors of our days.
"Favorite movie! Favorite Röfn) Oh it's a frenzy of light and neon, incredibly visually beautiful scenes, girls (Elle is adorable, and yes, even Keanu made a cameo!), a beautiful soundtrack by Martinez, and of course, suspense", — elen__.

"Barry Lyndon"
Drama, romance, war | 4.19 out of 5 on MyShows | 1975
Redmond Barry, a young Irishman, is determined to make a life for himself and become rich. Barry lies, cheats, seduces, duels, and eventually climbs the social ladder by marrying a wealthy countess named Lady Lyndon. But will the long-awaited money and status bring Redmond happiness?
The innovative approach of director Stanley Kubrick, who insisted on the absolute realism of the picture, elevated "Barry Lyndon" to the pinnacle of "costume" movies. Kubrick used no artificial light: some scenes were even shot by candlelight, authentic palaces and furniture were used instead of filming pavilions and sets, and the film's style is based on the paintings of William Hogarth, Thomas Gainsborough, and John Constable.
"Shooting without artificial light was a bit of a gamble! But it makes some scenes look like paintings come to life. And the efforts of makeup artists and costumers were not wasted, the movie was able to immerse me in the atmosphere of the 18th century", — NyanQt3_14.
