Variety named "Asteroid City" and "The Flash" among the worst movies of the year

Also making the list were "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honeyy" and the latest installment of "Magic Mike".

Owen Gleiberman and Peter Debruge, two of Variety's chief film critics, have compiled their personal picks for the worst movies of 2023. In their opinion, such lists are as important as rankings of the best movies: "We tend to think that the best movies of the year express something about the spirit of their time. But what about the worst movies? Often, they’re thought of as merely inept Yet the truth is that bad movies, in their very badness, have their own way of channeling what’s going on around them".

Even for me (a Wes fan), "Asteroid City" is a surprisingly passable film. But yes.. Surprisingly, there were enough other failures in the cinema

@wh1te_dreams: Well, it was more interesting for me to watch the French Bulletin than the Asteroid City. It is so monotonous that after half an hour the usual viewing turned into a background one

Owen Gleiberman is such a Gleiberman... and why is there no Menu on the list of the worst? Barbie? Demeter? And the Asteroid, although a passable one, is definitely not the worst this year and is certainly better than Anderson's previous tape about the French Messenger. But to spit in the direction of Wess is to create a resonance and discontent. Oh Gleiberman, Gleiberman... as they say, it's a good try, but no.

I was very surprised to see Caligula here. As far as I understand, is this just a better reissue of 1979? Wasn't it too late to include it in the rating of the worst films of 2023?) Correct me if I misunderstood something.

It feels like Owen was waiting for every movie on his list to be a masterpiece. None of them are bad, the usual mediocre movies.

@Kosinus1993-2: apparently, these are films from which more was expected. Otherwise, there would be category D nouns with a budget of one hundred bucks on such lists. I only watched Anderson, people left the session and everyone was unhappy. Although the fans were waiting.

@luvrok: that's why it's customary to experiment, at some point there is a risk of writing yourself out and going into self-replays under a bright wrapper. But experiments, as you can see, are not appreciated by everyone (Barbie, Menu), although the films are at least excellent (from the usual ones), the rest is a matter of taste.

No, it's a normal opinion, there is a place to be and it's up to everyone to agree or not. At least it is reasonable (if you read the article, and not just this news), and not as many people write here - shit and that's it!

@Gordey: I read Owen's opinion (1-the genre is dead , 2-Anderson is no longer 4-level , 3-the film is a bad and formulaic romcom,4-Tatum's character is toothless , 5-streaming sludge is streaming slag ) and I still don't understand why these are the worst films of the year.

To be honest, I don't understand why everyone is touching the flash. To me, it's as much a standard superhero movie as all the recent DC and Marvel movies. Neither better nor worse

Если людям нравится Черная пантера им действительно не стоит смотреть Андерсона.
