The main role in the movie was played by the star of Turkish serials Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ. He is known for "Forbidden Love" (2008-2010), "Kurt Seyit & Shura" (2014), and "The Family" (2023-2024).

The picture was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, but was never nominated. But "The Butterfly's Dream" has many other wins, including five awards at Turkey's famous Sinema Yazarları Derneği ceremony.

"Winter Sleep" won the 2014 Cannes Film Festival and earned director Nuri Bilge Ceylan his first Palme d'Or.
