The new "Pirates of the Caribbean" will be a reboot of the franchise

Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, has revealed that the new movie in the series will not be a continuation of the story, but a reboot of the entire universe.

Bruckheimer gave an interview to ComicBook.com in which he talked about working on the two franchises, "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Top Gun".

"...With 'Top Gun' you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant [Tom Cruise]. And how many movies he does before he does 'Top Gun', I can't tell you. But we're gonna reboot 'Pirates', so that is easier to put together because you don't have to wait for certain actors".

As journalists believe, Bruckheimer's comment suggests that the upcoming movie will have a new cast, that is, Johnny Depp will not return to the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. However, the producer himself did not share details.

In 2020, it became known about the development of two movies in the universe of "Pirates of the Caribbean": a picture with Margot Robbie, which would be an overload of the series, as well as the sixth film of the franchise, which would be written by Craig Mazin ("The Last of Us") and Ted Elliott. Mazin said they had finalized the script for the project and even presented it to Disney, saying studio bosses liked the work despite Mazin himself calling the script "too weird". The fate of both projects is unknown.
