Otome Youkai Zakuro takes place in an alternate version of Japan's Meiji Era. In this version of history, humans and spirits coexist side by side in the same world. However Japan is becoming more and more influenced by the West, and more people are accepting Western religions as their chosen faith rather than the more traditional Eastern faiths which have dominated the country for many centuries, leading to conflicts between humans and youkai.

The anime is just great - both interesting and high-quality, which is pleasing (the quality in Japanese animation has dropped significantly in recent years), in addition, the ending has not been blurred, as they like to do in TV series of 12-13 episodes... In general, it was definitely worth a look!

even though the anime is literally riddled with sadness, this sadness is the least like something akin to real sadness, but rather turns into a positive emotion, which I cannot name, I only know and hope that it is born from the very heart. The story they told us was truly incredible. she conquers from the very first minutes, looks in one breath, looks complete and worthy to watch her more than once or twice, and this despite the fact that the end begs for a continuation. In a word, it's an extremely good fairy tale.
