The good old movie adaptation of the classic spy detective story. It's boring, tedious, crooked and slightly clueless - everything that the "unsurpassed master" and recognized luminary of the genre John le Carré is known for. However, screenwriter Arthur Hopcraft and director John Irvin may have also made their personal contributions. With all due respect and reverence, Sir Alec Guinness doesn't shine in this series either, in my opinion, his character is quite wooden and dull. However, from the point of view of following the original, the film adaptation is excellent and accurate, but as a teledetective, it's a bit bland. It is clear that the real day-to-day work of the special services is not a Bond adventure fireworks, but I would like to be more lively.

In general, there is not enough dynamism. A dim picture, indistinct sound and very mediocre music overly saturated with fashionable dissonances at that time. However, the films and TV series shot at that time are extremely interesting, if only because, no matter how artificial the script was, the shooting was carried out on real streets, among real interiors, and even if the plot claims to be realistic, then on the screen there are just fragments of authentic life, the most natural, factual and material history, even if and relatively recent. From this, and from a cultural point of view, it is an extremely interesting series.
