Overview

Deemed nouveau riche and shunned by elitist New York society, sisters Nan and Virginia St. George, along with their friends Lizzy Elmsworth and Conchita Closson, try their luck in London. The girls' New World spontaneity and impertinence constitute nothing less than a social invasion of Old World society and they soon find themselves courted by a coterie of fascinated admirers. The plot is interesting, but the actresses were really picked up very similar. Okay, the St. George sisters, they're supposed to be similar, but why are their two friends exactly the same type? I hope that later, when their characters are revealed to us more, it will become easier to distinguish them)

It's quite an interesting series. It's a bit non-standard, probably because the main characters are American and they constantly focus on this)

It says everywhere that there are 6 episodes, not 5.

The first series were not impressed, I did not distinguish the heroines for a long time, but then I got involved. I was a little short of a detailed disclosure of some of the characters. For example, why did Annabelle actually get married? You can, of course, figure out for yourself that a young girl, friends all jump out to get married, and then the duke already makes an offer. Or did she like him when they were running around in the ruins? In general, we wanted such moments to be revealed in more detail, and the story of the same Lizzie passed as if on a tangent, we did not learn it in detail. I haven't found a book in Russian yet, unfortunately, I wanted to get to know the story in more detail.
In general, it seemed that the series was one big statement that England with its nobility was hopelessly outdated and out of date. There is not a single more or less positive character with a title in the film. In general, of all men, Guy is the only pleasant one, but he is an obvious symbol of a man who is able to abandon the past and follow the path of progress.
After the measured BBC adaptations - by Austin, Gaskell, Bronte, etc. - the problems here are of a different order, of course. Infidelity, syphilis, abortion - the English classics did not prepare me for this) But although I did not find any characters that I would fully worry about, I still liked the series.

Lord Sidon, in my opinion, is not worth the struggle that the girls have waged for him. There is nothing good except the title) In general, of all the characters, only Guy has liked so far. He wants to achieve something in life, despite all the difficulties that his father has arranged for him.

In this movie, all the girls look alike, I can barely tell them apart. The manners and antics of the women are terrible, they all behave like commoners. But the plot is interesting. I love movies about aristocrats.
