The good plot is based on a deservedly popular series of works about an outstanding, purposeful, independent-minded and acting policeman. A low-key hero is by no means an example of an executive subordinate, a good family man or a healthy lifestyle, not at all a knight in shining armor, although he will not leave a lady in trouble.
Decent editing, however, the manner of staging and filming the first season seems a bit outdated even against the background of other seasons. They play well, which is especially noticeable with an abundance of close-ups, there are enough successful interesting characters, excellent dialogues. Both Rebuses are good, Hannah is younger, prettier and more good-natured, Stott is more powerful, ruffier and more ironic, which is probably closer to the original. The season with the first one is a bit "noir", the business with the second one is more classic. The overcast mood is organically complemented by the streets, squares and just different views of Edinburgh.
It turned out to be quite a high-quality teledetective with strong darkly dramatic stories, decent detective intrigue and a dim but memorable main character, lively, witty and attractive.
Language. The vocabulary is not particularly complicated, but the accents are far from symbolic. Even the main characters don't always speak clearly, and it was completely impossible to understand the lines of some characters without subtitles.
