The plot is promising. 1990, England, a slightly altered reality. An experienced politician rushes to power. Jesuit intrigues, multi-pronged combinations, thoughtful provocations, timely leaks, cunning manipulations, blatant blackmail, vile setups and even brutal murders. The whole set of underhanded methods of political struggle in the highest echelons of power. There are also enough official showdowns: intra- and inter-party conflicts, parliamentary debates, biased media, ratings, slogans, elections, and so on. Rich, interesting material.
It was shot and mounted well. A stylish brass march sounds well in the credits. Great texts. They play well. Everything is good enough, but too serious (that's how the Americans liked it)). Ironically sarcastic comments from the first person do not save. Well, even schoolchildren know that many politicians are ready for anything, they will not regret either strangers or their own, they spit on others and worry only about their own rating, to put it mildly. That it is much more important for a politician to keep his face than to keep his word. And 12 episodes to harshly expose their cynicism and illegibility, somehow not very in the English spirit, in my opinion.
