If someone from modern times had gone back to the past, like America in the 50s and 60s, caught a young ambitious science fiction writer, told him the plot of Code Geass on behalf of Princess Euphemia and offered to write his story on the same topic, it would probably have turned out just like Aldnoah.Zero.. The ideas of American fiction from the middle of the last century simply ooze out of this anime, and the logo, which strongly resembles the genre's iconic surname Asimov, also strongly hints at this aesthetic. And that's why, as a man who has a closet full of Cold War fiction from top to bottom, I really liked this anime. If we consider Aldnoah.Zero is like the fiction of the 50s, then a good part of the claims to the title (justifying flaws, pianos in the bushes, the imbecility of the characters) falls off as unnecessary, because what is now perceived as the stupidity of the scriptwriters was then a cool plot move. The ancient civilizations of Mars and Venus, the colonization of the Moon and Mars, space stations, jumping through hyperspace - oh, oh, oh, all the famous and not so famous authors of those times got over it.

The only question left is why in 2014 to make a series based on stories from more than fifty years ago.

Furs and politics are something I can look at endlessly. I can say that this is my favorite type of anime, but the trouble is that if you think about it a little more, there can be dozens of favorite types. The first episode of Aldnoa captured me: I liked the music, I was pleased with the interplanetary conflict, from which one could expect great intrigues and interesting turns, I liked the concept of the first series, there were several expected events that rather spurred. There was a sense of classics. The whole series was a great success – great dynamics, lots of mecha fights, interesting strategic moments, lots of heroes, lots of events. But there were also some bad moments. Firstly, this is a blond earthling from Mars – for most of the series he did ridiculous things and moved from planet to planet. He looked like a useless and boring character, I don't know, maybe he'll play out in the second season? Secondly, the aura over the main character is a boy "without emotion." He was protected and promoted too obsessively and unnaturally, especially when there is a battle going on, the earthlings' mechs are being shot, a lot of people are dying and no one pays attention to it, and then a brunette appears and walks around the whole situation. Generally, the obsession with these two teenagers greatly reduces the level of anime. Turning everything from serious fiction into a teen cartoon… Well, you can't blame them for that–they work for their audience. Third– "Is the Princess alive? Is the princess dead? Is the princess alive? Is the Princess dead?", we hear this five times in each of the 12 episodes. It was a little annoying. Well, the ending is just very strange. We need to watch the second season to figure it out to the end.

Yeah... The end is extremely delusional. All the positive impressions were killed in a couple of minutes.

The story of how an emotionless OYASH on a dummy mech takes out invaders with alien technology, analyzing and operating with data better than all the military and scientists of planet Earth..
On the good side: I liked the psychological moments (and there are a lot of them here), the philosophical "friend among strangers, stranger among his own", the musical accompaniment, the ending is unexpected, of course, I hope for the disclosure of the plot)
