Overview
The serial begins with the murder of a young man, in what appears to be a drug-related killing, and the apparently coincidental death of Sonia Baker, the young researcher for MP Stephen Collins (Morrissey). As the deaths are investigated by journalist Cal McCaffrey of The Herald (Simm) and his colleagues (including Kelly Macdonald as Della Smith and Bill Nighy as editor Cameron Foster) it appears that not only were the deaths connected, but that a conspiracy links them with oil industry-backed corruption of high-ranking British government ministers.

An exceptionally successful casting. A gorgeous star cast, with a perfect match of characters and roles, and even if none of the brilliant cast struck with something new, everyone perfectly showed their traditional strengths. They play very well, the characters are great.
In addition, the series is soundly and realistically staged and filmed, the editing is at the proper level, natural interiors and details, the right sound, including music, an interesting story with dramatic multi-layered intrigue and lively main characters. I confidently recommend it.
Language. There are a lot of accents, different ones, there are very noticeable ones, but I didn't notice any complicated ones. In general, they speak well and clearly, especially with subtitles.
In general, this series is about sacrifice. Collins sacrifices his family for a lover and a career, his wife sacrifices her dignity to save her family, Cal sacrifices his feelings for the truth, and so on. It's a beautiful story that makes you think about the sacrifices we're willing to make in order to achieve what we want.
I noticed one illogic. Cal looked disgusted that you-know-who had given the keys to Beenham. Although he didn't steal the keys, he could have let them in at all. Whereas they themselves broke into Foy's apartment without the latter's knowledge and did not reproach themselves in the least.
I didn't understand why Stephen and Cal quarreled at all. Is Cal sleeping with Stephen's wife or something?
