Estella is very beautiful, especially in her wedding dress. Miss Havisham is terribly sorry...After that, to be honest, I didn't expect any good ending, but it ended quite well. I burst into tears while talking to Joe.
Dickens' book is truly a masterpiece. The film adaptation is also great, but, as usual, comparing with the book, the film, of course, is inferior. I agree with the comment above that Estella is not very good here. Really, so-so. Well, I was a little disappointed with the ending. The ending was made open, but in the book their meeting marked a separation. They agreed to say goodbye to friends, and "... and the wide expanses, bathed in the calm light of the moon, spread out before us, undisturbed by the shadow of a new separation." This ending added a lot more drama and emotion to the story than those awkward youthful touching. But I'm really picking on this and I want too much, comparing it with a book. Otherwise, I recommend watching it, especially in the original, if you know the language.
I'm also a bit picky, probably (I shouldn't have watched the series right after reading the book), but the way Joe and Pip's relationship became in the series disappointed me a little. it is clear, of course, that everything in the series should be as clear as possible... but in the book, how (frankly "dumb," as he calls himself) Joe, seeing the "new" pip, gets confused, accidentally calling him "sir" very subtly shows how their relationship is being transformed and how such changes hurt pip, cause him a sense of shame. Joe also does not in any way rebuke him, does not accuse him of forgetting his family, on the contrary, he forgives pip every time for his mistakes and nothing but embarrassment appears in his attitude towards pip. I was also a little upset by the absence of an elderly parent in the series (he's so touching, it's just awful :D) and Biddy. especially Biddy - the plot twist with her and Joe brightened the ending of the book, made the ending very warm. but even so, the series has arrived! somewhere on the fourth floor))
I very rarely watch movies based on books I've read, it's always disappointing, so I liked the movie and the ending. It just seemed to me that when Pip came to the house, my uncle was working, and Estella was coming out of the house to meet.
So I liked this version the most, but after watching 2 episodes of the new series (2023?) I realized that this one is perfect. The way they vulgarized everything in the new version is incomprehensible to the mind.
