Judging by the series, the book is just an incredible mess, scarier than Joyce's Ulysses, a waste paper unworthy even of a nail in a country toilet. Of course, I understand the turbulent 20th century, modernism, expressionism and all that. Maybe 100 years ago, this schizoid delusion seemed to advanced critics to be the language of the future, who knows. Or maybe German literature is really a mess, since such bullshit is being pushed through to the unfortunate Krauts under the guise of art.

But after all, the series itself is made mediocre, flat and obscenely dull. A year of filming, 3,000 actors - and the output is a puff, or rather, a fart into eternity. There is a lot of bad theater, very little good TV. All the male characters in the show are scoundrels or dumbasses, but all the female characters are prostitutes by definition. The development of the characters is very simple: a dumbass develops into a boring dumbass, scoundrels develop into murderers, and prostitutes into dead prostitutes. You can see the hard work of the director, yeah.

A dreary, dreary infinity.

The powerful parish of Frantz caught. I don't remember such details in the book, but it looks surreal.
