I just have one question...why...WHY (?!?!) knowing that Darnley has gone off the rails, is sick with syphilis, is obsessed with the fact that they want to take his son away from him and completely fell under the heel of his mother (and, by the way, she has already proved herself and you know what to expect from her)...the child is at the other end of the castle with one incomprehensible nurse, and Maria is quietly snoring in her chambers. I understand that a woman in labor needs rest and blah blah. But isn't this an exceptional situation in which you need to barricade yourself in your chambers with a child and at least with Bothwell, and in fact, with the army?
