The ending with ghosts/visions and the dialogues "You are my first friend" were very touching, but Lee Son's death was not. Predictable and ridiculous.
Briefly about the drama: we started for health, finished for peace.
I didn't like watching the chemistry of the main characters. In the Scarlet Hearts, as for me, everything was much better.
The ministers are like, "according to the law, you can't marry this woman," the king is like, "I said I'm getting married," and those are like, "Oh, OK, che." That is, they didn't even show a single normal conflict, everything was so easily resolved by itself. Boring. If he had to choose, then any choice of a hero would raise the drama in my eyes many times. And so it's too sloppy, from the emotions of the finale - only disappointment.
Honestly, I love Yoo Seung Ho very much, it was clear with what dedication he played his hero, they wrote that shooting brought him to exhaustion (it can be seen in the frame). But even his talent was not enough to make the cardboard hero memorable. Or maybe such roles are also needed by the actor for comparison, given that his previous images are all very colorful and ambiguous?
And yes, I watched the first half of the drama because everything was interesting, including the main love line. The flashback with the chicken reminded me that I really liked dorama. And then everything and everyone was leaked, and I watched mostly for the sake of Gong, Hwa Gong and the hope that maybe the action would unfold by the end.

The love line somehow reminded me of "6 flying dragons". Still, there are cool main characters like Hwa Gun from time to time, it's a pity that they always stay in the gap.
Comparing with the last viewed sagyks, this one is not inferior to them in any way, in some ways it even surpasses them. The very idea of giving the Crown Prince a mask so that no one could recognize him by sight is quite original. And Pensuhwe, controlling people with the help of poppy balls, brought variety to the world of familiar villains, which I also liked.
What has been going on with historical dramas in general lately? Why do the channels have original stories, but they just trash them?
I was very attracted to the idea and the actors. First of all, I was glad that Son Ho and Chol Min (Wu Bo's teacher) are playing together again. And my expectations were not in vain, they fit perfectly into the frame again)
I liked all the women in the series, except the main character. Koreans are very fond of innocent girls who need to be protected. That's not my type. So Ga Eun, the tears and vanilla around her were one of the biggest downsides of the series. And the extra drama around her self-sacrifice made me laugh. Seriously. Although at the beginning of the series, I even approved of the prince and Ga Eun couple.
The main character is also not a gift, even if he is played by an excellent actor. The false king, played by the idol, did not catch on in any way. I'm sorry, El.

The main disadvantage is the plot. It would be possible to finish this drama in 12 episodes, just throwing out the middle, where the creators delayed the prince's return to the throne very much. The only thing I liked about the plot was that they showed different kinds of love between people. Hwa Gun, who, despite her affiliation, loved her family's enemy with all her soul, even though she knew that he would never reciprocate. She gave her all. And Lee Song, who seemed to love, but turned out to be an egoist who forcibly wanted to take over the woman he loved.

I kept a few skeletons from the drama, which I really liked. "잠시나마" I'll be listening for ages. That's for sure.
But I'll give the drama 3 out of 5 and go watch something else.
