@Alona: I had the same thought, but taxis are probably too expensive for them (does anyone even know how much they have there?), and it can take a long time to get on the subway, especially if you still have to change trains + You can get from the last station by bus. in short, it was probably the easiest option.
@kshishevskaya: It turns out, according to Wikipedia, they don't have a subway (but they do have underground trams). And Google says that a taxi costs from 1.80 to 2.10 euros per kilometer, and a cup of coffee there costs from 2.5-3 euros. In short, the answer to my original question is "For the sake of drama."
Why do the creators make Kato so unpleasant and self-centered? It is very difficult for her to empathize. They spent seven episodes getting to know the main character superficially, without bothering to create a connection between her and the viewer. There was a bias against her from the beginning (Yasmina's season was postponed/a new heroine) and this could have been fixed by showing the real Kato and revealing her story without hints, but the chance is gone. And now their attempts to rectify the situation and put pressure on pity remain futile. It's a pity, because there was potential.
