It's not a bad show, but I was expecting something different... more humor on the topic of teaching, department, university... and here again the same enthusiastic topics, feminism, race, skin color, etc. Don't get me wrong, all these topics are very important, but they are being exploited very much now. It is interesting to see how the stupid trick of a man "who had no subtext under this joke turned into a storm of protests and how a snowball grows overgrown with more and more absurd accusations.
@tomagavk: This is about modern American reality. And maybe not only American... About how easy it is to manage a flock of sheep, and in this case, this herd is managed by itself. They themselves came up with something to be offended about, they themselves were offended, they themselves went in a herd to moo against the offender. And, of course, normal and adequate people can't do anything, otherwise they will also be pressed. Plus the fear of losing funding and other issues that are linked one after another. In a good way, it was necessary to expel a couple of dozen students and that's it, the rest would calm down themselves. :)

Relatively speaking, boomers consider zoomers to be shallow, hypersensitive, vulgar and lazy, while zoomers consider boomers to be backward, sluggish, living by outdated principles and clinging to dubious comfort. That is, in fact, this is the history of the entire human civilization, a repeating pattern from time to time.

The ending surprised me a little, I hoped for the victory of the main character, and Bill was pleasantly surprised. The only thing that upsets is that the series is too short and despite the good plot, even Bill did not have time to fully reveal and cannot fully sympathize with him, because the death of his wife is the main sign of his sometimes inappropriate behavior. And the part with the same Yasmin turned out to be a little crumpled, it is not entirely clear whether she will stay in Pembroke or leave. I would like, of course, a second season, but on the other hand there is a chance to spoil everything. I hope that Sandra will have more and more cool projects, very sensitive and incredible 🖤
I really liked the series, it deserves 5 out of 5, I hope it will be extended. Of course, everything is very tragic, how the crowd without thinking accuses a person of such serious things, destroying his life, there is something to think about here, I think.
I liked the pilot, funny, easy, the topic is close to me, this unpopular English department, ancient professors, jokes about teaching and education. I thought the whole episode that I would watch it now and go advise this series to everyone around. But after a couple of episodes, I was already very doubtful whether to advise him to anyone. It all came down to an agenda driven to the point of absurdity, and I don't take such stories well. Well, firstly, as much as possible, and secondly, well, I'm not close to what you'll do. So I didn't appreciate the deliberate surrealism of what was happening. But what pleased me throughout the season was the beautiful Joan, what kind of character did Holland Taylor turn out to be, gorgeous
The series showed what their young people care about - and this is equality, racial discrimination, etc. This is not a working out of the agenda, as you indicated, but a look at the conflict of generations and how the world has changed.

Словно у авторов нет никакого более-менее структурированного ответа на вопросы, которые заданы в текущий момент. И они то ли боятся себе в этом признаться, то ли наоборот понимают это и поэтому комкают концовку во что-то невнятное, впихивая нам фактически эпилог из разряда "десять лет спустя". Хоть кто-то понял, кто чего хотел в этой истории? Билл и Джи Юн хотят преподавать, принято. А остальные? Чего хотят старые профессора? Удостоится чести помереть будучи при контракте? Чего хотят все эти недовольные студенты? Поставить галочку напротив пункта "протестовал, пока учился"? Чего хочет декан? Чего хочет эта невнятная корейская родня на фоне? Чего хочет ассистентка Билла? Вот Дафна хочет издать роман, а остальные? Тот же Духовны? Сериал лёгкий, визуально красивый, с классным саундтреком, но такой чертовски пустой. И кроме прекрасного английского языка, литературных шуток и шикарного использования мата (одна duly fucking noted чего стоит!) в нём нет ни-че-го. Обидно, завязка ведь была чудо как хороша.
а по мне больнее всего прошлась тема собственно учителей, преподавателей, хорошие из которых действительно пытаются нести доброе, вечное, горят своим делом. и та тонна дерьма, с которой им приходится сталкиваться. Джи Юн и Яз, да и Билл, и Джоан, столько сделали, чтобы в свои годы быть там, где они есть, и все равно по ним ходят как по ковру. а два старикана с подгузниками так и сидят пердят на своих местах, ничего не делая.
Действительно, странный конфликт зигующего преподавателя и студентов. Я представил: хожу на пары к любимому лектору, хорошо знаю его манеру вести лекцию, и он для эффекта выкидывает руку в фашистском приветствии. Я бы пропустил это мимо глаз, так как точно знаю, что он не из какого-нибудь тайного ордена адептов третьего рейха. А то, что вытворяют студенты сериала, иначе как подлячеством и тупостью не назовёшь.
@nestejatel: согласна, что с их стороны это было странно, но он первый начал: опаздывал на лекции, потом вообще свою жену голую на видео случайно включил.. я бы лично разочаровалась в таком поведении. Наверняка некоторые студенты тоже были не особо довольны, вот и решили "подшутить"
Хороший сериал на вечер. Очень легко смотрится, порадовала актёрская игра (Сандра О, Джей Дюпласс очень верибельные и классные!) и общая атмосфера. Мне, в отличие от многих комментаторов, скорее понравилось, что сценаристки не скатились в обвинение кого-то конкретного - в том смысле, что нам двояко показана вся эта ситуация с "отменой" Билла: неправ он, но неправы и студенты. К тому же, в сериале было несколько уморительно смешных моментов (одна только сцена с Джоан в библиотеке чего стоит, или то, как Чи Юн отчитывала Духовны), и это тоже работает ему в плюс. В общем, мне кажется, рейтинг у проекта незаслуженно низкий, и он стоит внимания.

And he got into this pose, "I'm right, these students are idiots, they are fighting against something there." It's stupid.

Понравился сериал. Драма, но с юмором - как в жизни :))) Почему-то самым раздражающим персонажем был декан, хотя и его конечно понять можно. Финал, не смотря на случившееся, получился светлым и добрым :)
Приятный получился сериал: и серьезный, и забавный, с милыми моментами и неплохим финалом. Понравилось, что можно без проблем посмотреть весь сезон за вечер. Всем, кому понравилось, очень рекомендую прочитать «Непосредственного человека» Ричарда Руссо, у них с сериалом много общего, наверняка получите удовольствие.
Сериал очень понравился, душевный, часто показывает интересные зарисовки, которых я раньше не встречала. Сандра О просто супер, как и в целом остальной каст. Очень надеюсь на продолжение, понравилось смотреть на кусочек такой жизни :)
