What a strange character this blond guy is, what the author tried to mold out of him is not clear at all. Since childhood, he has high moral principles, like ideals, then became friends with the heroine (when he managed to become friends with her and how they crossed in such a tight format is unclear) and wanted to be heroic with her, and then once he became a complete asshole with some unhealthy obsession with a girl from childhood.
Of course, I can understand his chagrin at the meeting, but the subsequent actions are very stupid and strange, even if he had become stronger and released him, obviously it would not have helped to establish contact.
