If you've watched "Brothers in Arms" or "Saving Private Ryan" and you liked it, this series is for you. Actually, it was made by the same people, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
@s191880: soldiers are extras, actually, always, in any war. And they are always children of their country and their time. It would be strange if they behaved like defenders of Stalingrad or heroes of Star Wars, as for me the series is good because they are typical Americans of their time. Unpleasant ones - well, they are not gingerbread to please everyone. As for the plot, it was not originally envisaged in the series as such. The series is based on the memoirs of veterans of those events who were clearly not virtuoso writers, they simply dictated or described themselves what they witnessed. She's like that in real life, she doesn't pull off a romance in most cases. Well, the main question. The modern American paradigm is such that the merits of the USSR (and Russia, respectively) in WW2 are greatly downplayed, while their own merits, on the contrary, are exaggerated. Well, let's take an example from them, let's take the numbers from the ceiling (3% participation, what sounds bad?) and engage in the same masturbation. Let's have a competition who's going to turn who around. Or who will pour more shit on whom. It will turn out to be a lot of fun, I have no doubt that with this approach, a hundred years later, the main characters of World War II will be Honduras and the Ivory Coast, because no one knew about their participation in the war and they forgot to shit.
@s191880: People like you have fun. They won't figure out the issue, but they're going to pour shit on everyone except their own. During World War II, there were three theaters of war in different parts of the world, and countries (states) took almost equal part in all these territories. While the United States was at war with the Japanese, the USSR was holding back Germany. If the Japanese (for a second, this is one of the Axis countries) did not have such a "distracting" factor as the United States, then where would they press with all their might? Of course, to the Far East! Where, again, China helped us. Guys, don't think that the USSR single-handedly defeated Hitler and his allies, we also had allies, and they made a significant contribution to this event. And to throw such accusations that someone there lifted his ass half a centimeter from the chair is very stupid.
It's a great series, I advise everyone to watch it. Along with Brothers in Arms is a powerful thing! without unnecessary snot, without unnecessary stupid special effects trides, which Russian modern films about the war like to pour, and with which films try to make people feel. It's just a powerful script, great work by the cast and crew, and you're already completely rooting for them and worrying about them.
A masterpiece series. Why haven't I heard of him before? And male humor is present, and the tragedy and the lives of the characters have been shown. I was worried about each individual character. I wish there were more such series.
Somewhere the first two episodes were not very interesting, I don't even know why, I thought that the series was a cut below "Brothers in Arms". But by the end of the series, I realized that he was just as fucked up as the one mentioned above. Pyatyunya :)
Equal in quality / depth / execution to the "Brothers in Arms". Here, the emphasis is more on the person, on various aspects of his living in inhumane conditions of military operations, rather than on the theater of military operations, but he did not lose at all, and somewhere even won from the "Brothers ...".
A well-chosen cast, excellent musical component, interesting life stories of individuals do their job - they sink into the heart...
The events described were so long ago, but humanity and individuals remained without vaccination from the war, from all the fear, grief and losses that it causes... Alas and ah... 😔
I am very glad that I came across this work. Great skill in conducting a narrative exclusively on behalf of American soldiers, but at the same time making the viewer empathize with the Japanese side. War is never black and white, and although we, the townsfolk, are lucky enough to think about such things only in an artistic context, it is important to always remember this. It's a strange feeling, as the story of the Second World War is covered with dust right in front of our eyes. The only person who connected me to her was my grandfather, a veteran who left in my childhood in the early noughties. It feels like the memory of the war has gone with him...
I watched this series after two other similar works by Spielberg and Hanks - Brothers in Arms and Lords of the Air. Of the three, I liked this series the most. It was interesting to look at the development of the American-Japanese branch of the Second World War. Although "interesting" here, of course, is not the right word at all. A good life series. During the summary before the credits, I was sincerely happy for the surviving guys. All those mentioned lived to old age and were still able to arrange their lives
You watch these series, read the memorials and realize how much society is degrading. Humanity is doomed to wars and imminent death. It's upsetting that you could have left earlier, fighting for something really meaningful and with the faithful people around you.
It's a great series. But I liked the Brothers in Arms better. Probably because the story is more complete there. And here 3 different main characters are shown, unrelated to each other in any way. But then again, the goals of the series are different. The Brothers show what a fighting brotherhood is, but here it shows more how war traumatizes a person's personality. You can come back from the war completely intact, physically, but you will get psychological trauma anyway. The words from the song will come in handy here: "You promised her you'd come back alive.", But you didn't tell her that you'd come back different." Unless, of course, the person was beaten on the head initially. Of course, such people feel at ease in war, but such people, even in peacetime, most likely end up in prison. They showed me the first episodes a little boring, but then I got involved and I already wanted to watch them to the end and find out how it would end. In any case, I recommend watching it. I'll definitely review it again sometime.
The first impression is given by the credits, these beautiful and tragic slates.
I liked the series, the terrible war, the terrible conditions in which the characters had to survive. There is absolutely no jingoism. I watched it with interest and great pleasure.

It's a pity that they don't shoot this here.
I think I'll watch it again sometime, but I can definitely say that it won't be easy.

The 8th episode took the most by the soul.
