A cool way to convey what is happening. Not to show the fight directly, but through memories. And the change of frames from the critical moments of the incident to a quiet room is also interesting.

The series is interestingly constructed. The impression is that the fight was lost, only the pilot was saved, and now Shinji is trying to somehow settle into a new life, accept defeat and find the strength to continue. But then - "He defeated the Angel"; the fight, as it turned out, went completely differently, unexpectedly for everyone, except maybe his father, only the boy perceives such a turn, perhaps not at all easier.
