A very original and original film (at least in that it should be watched exclusively with subtitles). Vividly and dynamically filmed. You really empathize with the heroes. Jaguar's Paw - handsome

On the one hand, the film was shot very well. I recently watched it for the 5th time.
On the other hand, there are a lot of historical assumptions and shortcomings.
1. There is a reference to both the Maya and Aztec peoples. Although they are completely different peoples and cultures.
2. The warriors were not naked, most had cotton armor. That is, armor and pressed cotton fabric, treated with something. It was light, fought well against moisture, sweat and protected it against arrows and sliding blows of cold weapons, such as knives.
3. The Maya and Aztec peoples were not dark, as described in the film. For example, the Maya knew mathematics and astronomy perfectly. Therefore, it was impossible to scare them with an ordinary solar eclipse.
4. In the cities there were decent-looking several-storey buildings-huts.
5. By the time the conquistadors landed, the Maya peoples were practically no longer in Yucatan. And the three Aztec tribes and their cities were different. The peoples of Meshik, Akolua and Tepaneki are not like the characters in the film.
6. These tribes had writing, history, advanced medicine and mathematics at the time of the invasion. There were schools. There was a class system in place. There was slavery, but there were humane conditions of liberation.
7. The cities were clean. Tenochtitlan, the city of the sun, was white and bright. A lot of gold, which was then plundered by the conquistadors of Cortez. Well, where is it shown in these cities?

To summarize. Mel Gibson, as a director and a true Catholic, sought to show in the film how badly the Indians who did not believe in Christ lived before the landing of the whites.
And this, to put it mildly, is not true.

Despite all this, the film is excellent.

The first time I came across him on TV, I was 19 years old, at first I didn't understand what was going on, but the film immediately tightens.
Now I decided to reconsider, and everything is also interesting, although I remember the plot

the film is amazing and yes, there was a comment that at the beginning of the film the epigraph "A great civilization cannot be destroyed from the outside until it destroys itself from the inside." And I also saw such a background in this film that no matter how strong a civilization is, there will be stronger ones... That is, the Maya destroy the Jaguar village, but their civilization is doomed, and on this cheerful note the Spaniards arrive...

It's a great movie. Gibson is a diverse personality: a good actor and director
