Art and religion have been in close interaction for centuries: faith is reflected on in theatrical productions, on the pages of books, and on the screen. We have collected seven films with a religious theme.

Of course, the film is not entertaining, so it can be difficult to evaluate it. But Mel Gibson is great that he had the courage to do such a frank job.
It's a tough movie. And how realistically all the punishments of Christ are shown. When you just hear the whole story, you don't think about the fact that it's all very painful. When they whipped him with a metal-tipped whip, it felt like they were hitting me, especially after the shot of it digging into his ribs, I felt completely uncomfortable. And, of course, the moment with the crucifixion, driving stakes into the hands, and especially into the legs, when two legs are pierced through. This is where you realize how much severe suffering the prisoners were experiencing at that time. And I don't understand why people needed Jesus' execution so badly. But this is more of a story with some herd instinct and faith in all the local preachers who strenuously wanted to get rid of it. And special respect to the actors for the fact that everyone spoke Hebrew, or what language it is, I'm not very good at it, but obviously this is how people spoke at that time. If you watch it in the original, it will create maximum immersion.
@Chilipizdrick: I can clarify that the reconstructed Aramaic language was used, it was spoken by Jews at that time. The Romans in the film speak Latin.
In general, authenticity was even a problem in terms of how the actors speak.
I remember watching it in the cinema, I couldn't hold back the tears, I watched the whole movie and cried in the end - I was very impressed. After all, there are very few films that can evoke such emotions.
It was so hard to watch... it made my heart ache. I wanted to close it and not let these bastards bully me. It's too much of a sacrifice for this lost world. After all, people still didn't understand anything.… How much blood was shed after his death and how much more will be shed...!?
The film itself is very well shot! It conveys the feelings and emotions that should resonate in each of us when watching.
