There is an urban legend about this tape: the viewer will die seven days after watching it. Rachel tracks down the video... and watches it. For a long time, this odd thing from the TV remained even my phobia, you can say for many years... III... Having finally watched it from start to finish, I'm damn pleased. It turns out that the movie is amazing! And the green filter throughout the viewing, and the history. Yes, there are still some questions about the characters and the plot. But overall, it's a very great movie, considering that it scared me for a lot of years, even just with its excerpts on TV.
But in fact, I felt very sorry for Samara. The problems of fathers and children can be traced even in a horror movie... I think if parents had accepted the characteristics of their child, everything would have been completely different... Like, for example, in the movie "Somnia", when the foster mother helped a special boy to understand and let go of his fears. Well, for example, his dreams stopped being creepy. And right there. Perhaps the girl did not sleep because she was also tormented by something, but no one helped her. They only sent him to a mental hospital, and then they killed him altogether. Of course she would want revenge after that.
I remember how after watching it late at night, purely on the strong-willed, I got up and looked in the mirror. A completely different person was looking at me from there, it was such a creepy and funny feeling)

Despite all the accumulated skepticism, the film turned out to be a quiet piece that is not a shame to love, and even more so, it is not a shame to praise. Of course, it's hard to resist comparing it to the original, which is very good in many ways, but the Verbinski remake is a very, very cold, damp autumn movie. It plunges into an atmosphere not of horror, but rather of such constant melancholic anxiety, which at times feels even too cozy.
In addition, here, albeit in very general terms, the process of a small journalistic investigation is perfectly shown, when it is necessary to formulate a request correctly, and be able to find information, and to find and rummage through paper media. It was very interesting to watch these manipulations, which is no wonder, because the original was about this in many ways.
But the two main characters, surprisingly, were completely knocked out of the dive, which is why it was not possible to fully understand what was happening. On the one hand, Rachel is presented as a skilled professional journalist, and on the other, her naivety and stupid actions sometimes create the exact opposite impression. And her son Aidan is a perfect example of how superfluous the trope "creepy kids do creepy things" can be. His phrases and actions did not cause fear, much less anxiety, but only a tired sigh and a desire to skip through the relevant scenes.
And the most amazing thing for me is that the film is very beautiful. It's full of amazing shots, and even witty camera solutions, but you won't get enough of the picture, and even though the plot is really good, the inappropriate stupidity of the main character and her strange son noticeably spoiled the impression. But what can't be taken away is that it represents the perfect films for a cold autumn evening. With a very thick, damp atmosphere, biting winds and physically palpable loneliness. That's all you need from him.
