Quantum of Solace

The movie is great.

"Quantum of Mercy” is a direct sequel to “Casino Royale,” so let's watch Kozino Royale first. The film opens with an exciting chase along the serpentine and continues with a rapid-fire shootout in a mysterious basement. Director Mark Forster, known for his intellectual dramas, tries to keep a balance between reality and bond style, but does not always cope with this task. The plot takes Bond to Haiti, where he encounters a secret organization that changes governments for its own purposes. Camilla (Olga Kurylenko), the daughter of a Russian woman and a Bolivian politician, is at the center of the intrigue, seeking revenge for her father's murder. Bond, as always, leaves only corpses behind, which makes it more difficult to uncover the true intentions of the conspirators. The main driving force of the film is Bond's indomitable rage, which pushes the action forward with incredible speed. However, this speed sometimes creates the feeling that it is difficult to keep track of what is happening – the viewer periodically wants to “go out for a drink of water and collect his thoughts.” The film suffers from the lack of witty phrases characteristic of Bond and from some naivety in portraying villains who change governments – it looks somewhat outdated after the events of recent years. Nevertheless, the technical side of the film is done at a high level: the excellent work of the artist and the impeccable performance of Daniel Craig save the picture from complete failure. The finale unfolds in Kazan, symbolically returning Bond to his roots, which is especially interesting in the context of modern geopolitical realities. Quantum of Solace is an attempt to continue the reinvention of the Casino Royale franchise, but the attempt is not entirely successful: Agent 007's “incarnation” sometimes turns into a simple marketing strategy, losing that fine line between reality and style that makes Bond special.
