Resentment, revenge and malice are out of place here. The soundtrack here is also very nice! You can pick up words of admiration for cars every second. I've reviewed it again today and noticed how many successful directing and camera solutions there are. CGI is used appropriately. Cool transitions, offset frames, angled frames, and so on. Cool use of sound effects in non-obvious situations. For 2001, this is really the top.
The plot formula here is solid and then successfully repeated in 3 parts (which is why these are the best parts of the entire franchise).
