Description
Two investigators of paranormal hoaxes, the veteran Dr. Margaret Matheson and her young assistant, Tom Buckley, study the most varied metaphysical phenomena with the aim of proving their fraudulent origins. Simon Silver, a legendary blind psychic, reappears after an enigmatic absence of 30 years to become the greatest international challenge to both orthodox science and professional sceptics. Tom starts to develop an intense obsession with Silver, whose magnetism becomes stronger with each new manifestation of inexplicable events. As Tom gets closer to Silver, tension mounts, and his worldview is threatened to its core.
I watched it on the second attempt, and still liked the movie. Including at the expense of the ending.
Although it was a little infuriating how many characters repeat the same thing))
The denouement makes you wait for a very long time - right up to the very end of the film. What will the main character discover in the end? A large-scale falsification, or is it proof of the existence of the paranormal? Until the very end of the film, you catch yourself trying to glue together the clues given by the plot and put together a logical picture from them. But, as the main George said, the whole magic is that you're looking in the wrong place.
The creators are flirting with the supernatural theme, and it turned out to be impressive. Two scientists investigating and uncovering charlatans face a new challenge - the famous psychic Simon Silver - Robert de Niro - returns from oblivion to the stage. And if the heroine of Sigourney Weaver - Dr. Matheson - does not want to get involved with him, then the hero of Killian Murphy - Tom Buckley - turns out to be obsessed with this idea.
To be honest, from the very beginning I was perplexed why the characters of the picture took for immutable the fact on which everything was built. It was on the surface! As they say, if you want to hide something, put it in the most prominent place. But it took me a few minutes to realize the ending - a very cool idea that turns the whole movie from an unexpected side.
The cast is amazing, the plot is inherently interesting, but alas, the film has drawbacks and inconsistencies. For example, the viewer does not immerse himself in the story of the heroes - in fact, only a piece from Dr. Matheson is revealed to us, and even that is dotted. The scene in the toilet has remained a mystery to me at all - for what and why? The feeling of being stuck in an action movie for the sake of action.
Nevertheless, the film is good, I got my pleasure, and not only from my beloved Killian :)
Well, spoons also piss me off in films about psychics. where does this obsession with spoons come from?
the film would have cut down on conversations, and a good detective story would have come out. and so it is very tedious.
