Overview

Mononoke is a spin-off of the Bakeneko story arc of Ayakashi - Japanese Classic Horror. It follows the Medicine Seller as he deals with various spirits or "Mononoke" in feudal Japan. Just like in the Bakeneko story, he combats with a series of tools and his vast knowledge of the supernatural on his side, but can only slay the Mononoke when he uncovers its form (Katachi), the truth behind its appearance (Makoto) and the reason for its unusual behavior (Kotowari). In other words : Truth, Form and Regret.

@shei350: That's not really the point here. In fact, the girl was not in any prison and did not kill anyone. Here is an allegory to the fact that all her life she acted solely according to her mother's will, and whenever she wanted to do her own thing (Go play with a ball, instead of playing the koto. Or run away from the viewing to the person who loved her), she suppressed her actions, and thereby killed the possibilities. The prison is metaphorical, in which she locked herself up, they say, "serves me right!"
Well, was that guy really in love with her? Or did she make it up? I think everyone decides for themselves here.

The first impression is that the drawing is strange. After the usual "ordinary" anime, she is repulsive from the beginning. But after watching the series, I thought: "What a fool, this is a masterpiece drawing!". The graphics look like drawings on crumpled paper, as if someone is rearranging engravings in front of you.

The second thought: "Here he is – a real Japanese chorus! This is exactly how the ominous forest should be." Although you realize over time that it does not reach horror, there is sharpness, but there is no tension.
The result is a vivid example of Japanese folklore: in drawing, in music, in the atmosphere, in the era. Every tree and blade of grass is a deity, there is a demon under every stone, all sorts of ayakashi and mononoke scurry back and forth around. But they do not come from nowhere: thoughts are material, actions are material – they are all the flesh and blood of the demons around us.

Of all the genres assigned to Mononoke, only psychology seems to me to be true. Because the series makes you think about what kind of mononoke lives in you (well, of course, if you can break away from the gorgeous drawing and really think with your head, not with your eyes).

After watching it, I always edit anime in the database and so I went to World Art, and it turns out this is the second season. Well, who calls two seasons of the same anime differently?? I downloaded Ayakashi, but now I'm afraid the effect won't be the same, probably = P

I didn't even realize right away that this anime is already 10 years old. It looks very unusual and stylish. And the mixture of horror atmosphere, Japanese culture and mysticism directly touches my inner aesthete;

At first glance it looks like a complete sur, but if you think about the concept of anime, then everything is not so simple)From the first episode, it takes your breath away. It is useful to move away from the usual drawing, patterns, structure and other things that relate to a typical anime picture. The beginning of the fire!I advise everyone to look further!)
