Overview
St. Eligius Hospital in South Boston was not exactly the world's best health care center. Despite its flaws, it featured some of the most caring doctors and nurses you could ever meet. Led by Dr. Donald Westphall (and later by Dr. Benjamin Gideon), St. Eligius became a sanctuary for the underdog and the downtrodden. St. Elsewhere ran on NBC for six seasons. Originally a ratings flop, NBC picked it up for a second season for the sole purpose of grabbing some additional Emmy nominations. It eventually became a minor hit for The Peacock, until burnout by the writers resulted in its 1988 cancellation. The series was nominated for 63 Emmy Awards and won 13.

An old dilapidated hospital (looks like ours now)), sandwiched between a dumpster and railway tracks, is named Saint Eligius, but patients call it the Chertigde hospital (Saint Elsewhere - literally "NePoimiGde", I would translate as "Zadripishchenskaya hospital" because the term is slang and roughly means in Russian). A young first-year resident is trying to save a 15-year-old girl from a mysterious African disease. This is the main storyline. But the millennia of other characters bring their own. The hospital is alive and breathing mainly due to the abundance of extras. They don't rent like that anymore, they save money. Patients die and recover, if they're lucky. Doctors are working at their limits. But everyone manages to live at the same time: fart, have sex, have tantrums, eat lunch, discussing today's intensive care units, falling asleep on the move, but then in a second to gather himself and piece together the victim of the explosion. If we make allowances for the fact that this is one of the first two drama series of the modern type, the originator, so to speak, then it is quite possible to watch it now. It's a pity there is no Russian.
