From the moment where the murder took place, I thought it was unrealistic to get out of it, but in this episode, the testimony of the doctor and the speech of the lawyer really convinced me that it was as they told. If you're planning a murder, you're unlikely to tell everyone who you're going to and why. If she had planned a murder, or even spontaneously decided to kill Betty at the moment of the quarrel, it would have been much easier to take a kitchen knife than to go to the garage for an axe. Candy never showed signs of violence, never even raised her voice, from what we were shown. The fact that she committed such a morally reprehensible thing as cheating and seducing someone else's husband does not make her a murderer, so I understand the verdict of the jury.
But I don't understand. How can you let go? There is such a thing as "manslaughter." Was there a murder? It was. How can parents and daughter continue to live? And this one also went to work as a psychologist 🤦♀️
@id62468646: in the USA, especially in the southern states, there are much wider limits of the necessary self-defense - murder for self-defense is almost always recognized as a justifying factor. There is, of course, a clear excess of self-defense in a state of passion, nevertheless, the jury has the right to consider other facts, which happened.
I will add to what was written above - in most states, if lethal force is used against you (and I think an attack with an axe is considered lethal force) - you have the right to use the same lethal force as self-defense, especially if there is reason to believe that they really tried to kill you (and not just scare you).
Yeah, I'd be embarrassed if I were a jury of 40 punches and the fact that she didn't admit right away, but tried to hide everything. I left the child alone in the apartment with the murdered mother
"Manslaughter" is when, for example, a pedestrian was skidded into ice and accidentally hit to death. And here is pure "self-defense". And as Candy's husband correctly noted, it could have ended the other way around. So, alas, there was a chance of survival.
Even if the attacker fell, there is a chance to escape. The fact that she pretended that everything was fine without going to the police makes her guilty of murder in my opinion.
@salvus_angel: With your care, you would have transplanted everyone. Only now the fight scene was shown, and it was perfectly clear not only that Candy was trying to avoid the sad consequences, but also that she was trying to escape, but Betty turned out to be so tenacious and tenacious that she did not let her do it, which is why everything escalated to a complete explosion. If it hadn't been for Betty's insane rage, she would still be alive. In fact, she not only attacked Candy herself, but also did not give her a chance to get out, which caused Candy to have an emotional breakdown and she just beat her in complete inadequacy.
@lexastaw: You do realize that this is a largely made-up scene, because there are no witnesses? All that is known about this episode is from the words of Candy herself, who of course told everything in a favorable light for herself.
I didn't understand something - at the end they are told that the jury has returned, the lawyer throws the defendant and runs beautifully across the courtyard and up the stairs. The next frame shows them in the courtroom again. What was that run for?
@ameliap: I think there's a cut scene. maybe he ran up the stairs to the judge or someone else to talk to before the verdict was announced . because he was running - the others were walking and suddenly they were together in the hall at the same time. illogical and unnecessary. maybe they showed the actor in good athletic shape.)
@jensenjar: it probably refers to what happened a couple of episodes ago, that the lawyer escorts the defendant and walks in from the main entrance himself. And they showed it to make it clear that this is the final and he does not just come in but runs to announce the decision (epic)
I had already forgotten how "Candy" ended, it turns out) the jury's verdict surprised me. Candy definitely did not plan the murder, but there is a clear excess of self-defense, and just to let her go in the courtroom like that...The facts at the end were even more shocking, namely that Betty's parents adopted her children, and dad Alan Gore got married for the third time and disappeared somewhere...What an asshole, sorry😐
@ZELENY_CHUDISHCH: Not all law and order have concepts of exceeding the limits of necessary defense. The logic is that in a life-threatening situation, it is not up to you to assess how sufficient your protection is, your instincts push you to save yourself at any cost. As I understand it, the prosecution tried to prove intent, saying that you can't strike 40 blows without intent.
@ZELENY_CHUDISHCH: is it easier to let them cut you down with an axe than to allow you to EXCEED self-defense and go to jail? Haven't you been in a fight more than once? Don't you know that these are not round-table talks in beautiful jackets and skirts, where the parties are trying to reach a compromise while sipping coffee? It's either you or you-there's no third option. The only thing that can be considered an excess is that, for example, a man with fists attacked, and his knife is an excess. And then, people are different, situations are different. If a puny teenager is attacked by a hefty bully, then their forces are unequal. Because one can kill with one blow, and the other won't even leave a bruise.
@GREEN_CHUDISHCH: Yes, the norm. The same norm as getting sick, getting rejected, war, etc. No matter what kind of humanity someone would talk about. People have always fought, are fighting and will fight. That's nature. Of course, the situation is a little different for girls. But for mostly younger children, regardless of gender, it is a common thing. For example, I do not think that this solves the problem that has arisen somehow (in fact, it is only capable of generating new ones). But who asked me, right? I have never initiated fights, I did not hit first. BUT. You can't hide from fools and imbeciles, no matter how you try to be peaceful and avoid conflicts, but if a fight starts, then you either fight back or suffer (you get guaranteed damage to health or life: and here I'll say the line is generally blurred, a light push is enough to take a life). And you don't think in these moments how to hit you so that you "don't exceed self-defense", you think in these moments only about staying alive. And I will tell you, the feeling of danger does not disappear at the moment when the opponent falls, writhes, etc. therefore, those who are particularly impressionable against the background of adrenaline do not control themselves from the word at all and are able to finish off the aggressor to the last.
Indeed, knowing in advance the verdict of the jury at first it is not clear how the jury came to such a decision, but after listening to Candy's testimony, you begin to compare the details that led to this outcome. But anyway, of course Betty's poor relatives, her parents, her daughter was hacked to death with an axe, it's still terrible, anyway. Besides Alan's fate, I was very surprised that Don Crowder (Candy's lawyer) shot himself in 1998. 🫤
@Coraline119: Actually, this Alan Gore is some kind of slippery guy. It also seems from the photo) there was no one to take the axe in hand. They showed him some kind of emotionless. Especially at the moment of saying goodbye to Candy. The goat, in short. )))
I understood that with the phrase "everything that is not being done is for the best" he showed that it was hard for him to live with Betty and he is to some extent glad that his torment is over and he has been "released"
Ha, at the beginning of the 10th minute, when they both hold onto the axe, it is turned with the blade towards them, then towards the floor. Ay ay ay, someone on the set didn't catch up.
According to the first series, I had such an impression, to be honest. Plus, I sincerely do not understand why the hell two platforms should make a series based on the same story with a difference of a year, it's nonsense, as if there are no other high-profile murders. This is a direct parasitism on the popularity of true extreme. (Ted Bundy's endless identical iterations are the best example of this — as many as 5 pieces in the last 4 years.) But! with each subsequent episode, unlike the rather even intensity of "Candy", everything only got better here, so I partially take back my comment under the first episode: I don't like the tempo of his episode, but as an exposition for subsequent episodes it looks ok. In general, I would say that, as a result, both series are made and played at about the same level of quality.
Liz did a great job, and in general, the cast did a great job. The script is good. I don't know how well the interrogations and closing arguments of the parties were reliably postponed, but everything sounded quite reasonable — for a second I even believed in Candy's version. There was a gaslighting, in short.😂
@scarcelyinside: About why studios should do something based on the same story with a difference of a year. This is generally a very interesting and ambiguous thing))) If you are interested, then Google any articles on the topic *twin films* , * twin films* or any variation of the phrase * why two identical films are released in one year* , this is an interesting thing :) There can be many options, from logical types the same script was sent to several studios and each decided to do it a little differently . Or corporate espionage . To versions from the category of almost otherworldly, that two completely different people came up with almost identical ideas about the same period of time . As an example, they also say that there are multiple discoveries in science. In general, look at the articles on the topic of gemini films, this is an interesting thing))
And from myself I can add that I absolutely don't care about the Candy series and the real story, it's not even really "my genre", I decided to watch Love & Death purely because of the caste. So the heads of studios might have thought something like: oh, I don't care that last year someone already did something of their own on the same topic, We'll do it better, bigger, more expensive and also with Lizzie Olsen, heheee" and they were like that. They realized that they would be able to make views by custom alone .
In general, there is no nonsense in this situation :))
@FRFD: it seems to me that this is akin to two coffee shops opposite each other or a whole block of furniture stores, it would seem, what's the point? It's a competition - they take customers away from each other. But in real life, it turns out that one unwittingly advertises the other: because thanks to this series, someone will also watch Candy to compare, and vice versa. Also, with two almost identical coffee shops next to each other, you go to one cafe that you know about, there are no places there, and lo and behold: opposite there is almost the same cafe where you can stay + next time you will not think that "damn, break in there, maybe there will be no places", and you think, "well, there are two cafes, I'll sit down somewhere," while you may like one of them more than the other and be a priority. Watching an "alternative" movie, or "similar to the one you like" is quite common, because many people like the "comparison" effect. As a result, I myself looked through Candy at a speed of 1.5 after that to understand how everything is shown there. And I almost always do this with remakes, if some movie had an old original source, or the series had an original from another country.
@albinka_: Yeah, one of the things is advertising at the expense of another product :) Well, among other possible options, I mean. Someone is watching one thing, then looking for a similar one and voila :) Just by the way, mockbusters are created literally only by parasitizing the names of other franchises))
But the fact that he would shoot himself later caused goosebumps. That's probably why in the series one of the heroines tells him in the car: you will be haunted by this all your life.
@uliya1909: Cool, yes. I liked it, although I was surprised how he sent the judge)) Usually no one argues with them like that, but he just poked him with his muzzle and raised his voice, proving that he was biased
In general, I will also give my verdict on the series! The first 2-3 episodes, as I wrote in the discussions earlier, were "a little off." The picture is beautiful, the actors act out great, the sound is wonderful, but some kind of wrong atmosphere was created.. That is, in fact, the story is true, and in the first series, well, they stretched the exposition too much and plunged too much into nuances (many of which, of course, were invented). I won't say that any of the branches were downright superfluous, since many points (for example, Betty's dislike of the pastor, which was repeatedly emphasized) were important for the plot, but it was possible to slightly shorten the first act. The last episode took place in one go, although, like many, I knew the outcome in advance (both from last year's series and from the real story). Special bravo to Elizabeth Olsen (it was because of her that I watched the same story for the second time)), she was sooo good! She showed Candy from completely different sides, and emotionally did it filigreed! I was also shocked that the lawyer shot himself, it either somehow slipped my mind, or in Candy 1.0. it was not mentioned! Well, a family psychologist, of course it's strong!!)
And to emphasize again, a lawyer is just an expert in his field. Well, I'm surprised at the outcome of the case, as with the previous series about Candy
@karinabuzia: According to the law, she is acquitted, but if she had been convicted and served that other case. Plus another state, each state as a separate state with its own laws.
@jozzyk: First I watched the whole FOX, then I squandered Candy. I don't believe Jessica Biel in this role. Excessive demonization of the victim: how he suits schoolchildren, how he treats children at home. There was a poignant scene of a psychiatrist's appointment in the fox, and the doctor's testimony was useful in court) I'm glad I met Lis first. And, of course, Nina Simone is in the opening. I'm biased, what can I do)
@jozzyk: in "fox" they explain in detail why she killed, what and how, and even sympathy appears for Candy. In "candy," it's not at all clear why the jury acquitted her.
Over time, you begin to realize that who knows, maybe you would have done the same thing. Therefore, go to a therapist, work through and release childhood traumas, discuss with your partner how you would like to improve your relationship, and so on. You need to learn to talk and engage in reflection, so as not to end up in the place of the main character sometime))
Elizabeth is just wow. I didn't expect her to be such a good actress. The role of Wanda still did not give such scope for dramatic acting, even in Wanda/Vision.
Her Candy aroused sympathy, although initially, when I read about this story, the verdict seemed nonsense.
Don is also a very interesting character. It seems to me that he wanted to win from a purely professional position. Maybe also from a Christian or human point of view, because Candy came to him personally and trusted him. And ethics - he only found out that she had killed him after all when he had already taken up the case. It is not very correct (and sometimes impossible) to abandon the defendant.
After watching two projects on this story, I can't single out one that would be better on all fronts, each actress presented her Candy to the world in different ways.
Elizabeth is beautiful as always, first of all I planned to watch for her sake🧡
Initially, the series seemed boring, but the more I watched, the more it gained momentum, I would like to note the very high-quality shooting and excellent acting of Elizabeth Olsen, her facial expressions just perfectly conveyed the emotions of the heroine, you look at her and empathize and believe.
Wow, an unexpected jury decision for me personally! I thought that was it, they'd put Candy in jail, but everything turned upside down. Damn, Candy, this Alan Gore was originally kind of muddy, why did you choose him!) The series does not shine with dynamics, but nevertheless it is interesting from the very beginning to the end. It was beautifully shot, the actors are good, but first of all, Elizabeth Olsen is great, of course, who was perfectly able to play Candy.
@sergeyua: Well, am I complaining that this series does not shine with dynamics?) I made this conclusion based on the comments of viewers from previous episodes. It's just that for some it's a big minus, many people like dynamic TV shows. I liked the series, and the lack of dynamics in it did not become a minus for me.
@Gentle_Natalia: cons are just agreeing or disagreeing with an opinion, apparently people disagree. Well, sometimes they put disadvantages to undocumented opinions, such as "I didn't like it" - and why, it's not written. For example, here is a series based on real events, so it is unclear what in your opinion should have been more interesting at the end than displaying how it really was?
In addition, the pros and cons here do not affect anything at all - say as much as you want.
For the most part, the theater of one actress came out and she coped with a bang. From a good-natured cutie with her devils inside at the beginning, to a detached, withdrawn and mentally traumatized one at the end. Perfectly played out from and to)) But the plot turned out to be very long in the beginning. The first 2-3 episodes could be compressed into one. The pace of the narration is very low and frankly you can easily get bored. But if you wait until the murder, then you will not regret watching it anymore)
I'm happy with the series, the story is really interesting, not everything in life is always unambiguous, it's important to remember Olsen's acting, as usual, was a pleasure to watch, admired And I have a question here, maybe someone was already interested in the book with which they restored the events for the film adaptation? It seems like from Jim Atkinson and John Bloom "Proofs of love", I would like to buy, read, but I can't find anything about her Did I understand correctly what is based on this book or on another one and you can't tell me where to look?
There is, of course, a clear excess of self-defense in a state of passion, nevertheless, the jury has the right to consider other facts, which happened.
In fact, she not only attacked Candy herself, but also did not give her a chance to get out, which caused Candy to have an emotional breakdown and she just beat her in complete inadequacy.
maybe they showed the actor in good athletic shape.)
facts at the end were even more shocking, namely that Betty's parents adopted her children, and dad Alan Gore got married for the third time and disappeared somewhere...What an asshole, sorry😐
According to the first series, I had such an impression, to be honest. Plus, I sincerely do not understand why the hell two platforms should make a series based on the same story with a difference of a year, it's nonsense, as if there are no other high-profile murders. This is a direct parasitism on the popularity of true extreme. (Ted Bundy's endless identical iterations are the best example of this — as many as 5 pieces in the last 4 years.)
But! with each subsequent episode, unlike the rather even intensity of "Candy", everything only got better here, so I partially take back my comment under the first episode: I don't like the tempo of his episode, but as an exposition for subsequent episodes it looks ok.
This is generally a very interesting and ambiguous thing))) If you are interested, then Google any articles on the topic *twin films* , * twin films* or any variation of the phrase * why two identical films are released in one year* , this is an interesting thing :)
There can be many options, from logical types the same script was sent to several studios and each decided to do it a little differently .
Someone is watching one thing, then looking for a similar one and voila :)
Just by the way, mockbusters are created literally only by parasitizing the names of other franchises))
That's probably why in the series one of the heroines tells him in the car: you will be haunted by this all your life.
And to emphasize again, a lawyer is just an expert in his field.
Well, I'm surprised at the outcome of the case, as with the previous series about Candy
Elizabeth is beautiful as always, first of all I planned to watch for her sake🧡
Damn, Candy, this Alan Gore was originally kind of muddy, why did you choose him!)
The series does not shine with dynamics, but nevertheless it is interesting from the very beginning to the end. It was beautifully shot, the actors are good, but first of all, Elizabeth Olsen is great, of course, who was perfectly able to play Candy.
I liked the series, and the lack of dynamics in it did not become a minus for me.
Otherwise, the first 3 raised questions and it was boring
And in the end we accelerated well
In addition, the pros and cons here do not affect anything at all - say as much as you want.
But the plot turned out to be very long in the beginning. The first 2-3 episodes could be compressed into one. The pace of the narration is very low and frankly you can easily get bored. But if you wait until the murder, then you will not regret watching it anymore)
A good series 👍🏻👏🏻
