It's very strange that they didn't fully reveal this thing.
It was very similar to Silence, but to screw up everything like that like "forget it, everything is so cool", what kind of poor morality is that? The Doctor would never give up the search!
The only episode that made me want to hide under a blanket and have nightmares, but the ending was messed up.

@valerie_shaw: I think they didn't screw it up, but left it for last. No wonder there was a flashback to the evil doctor in the hut, more than one episode can be built on this topic, so this is just a good foundation for future (hopefully even more intriguing) episodes :)

on the contrary, it seems to me that such an ending is ideal. if we had found and neutralized the monster under the bed, it would have turned out to be a completely different story, but this way we reveal the doctor to ourselves from another side

The whole essence of fear is ignorance, but knowledge contains some kind of power. Revealing the monster from under the bed would be too easy for the series. But the joke here is that without knowing who's there, we can't be completely sure that it's something bad.

By God, by God, that was something! What I love about Doctor Who is that it has such a powerful connection between the seasons and the previous Doctors, for explaining what used to seem like a paradox. I agree with the comments above, yes, it was scary, but also exciting. They did a great job here that they did not remove the covers, i.e. pull off the blanket. Throughout the series, she suspected Silence, Angels (although she later realized that this was a stupid assumption), a new kind of companion monster, but that wasn't the point initially. The whole atmosphere of the series looks holistic precisely because of some element of mystery, unsolved, secret. This ending is intriguing, because what was it then, on the bed? There is no clarity - there is an opportunity to guess and figure it out on your own, and fantasy is not limited to budget and timing. In general, a lot of emotions, and all positive.

But I will believe that there was someone behind the door ;)
And the Doctor didn't remember who, because he was hit on the head.

I also really liked the tie on fear.
Although, maybe I just wanted Clara to fly to herself, and not to the Doctor? It would be like a finishing touch. =P

I remember when I first watched the merged series, it was still without special effects at that time, I didn't like it at all. I expected a little different. When I watched the episode live, the reaction was exactly the same. But after a while, I just fell in love with this series. Everything is perfect in it. The beautiful, touching, awkward relationship between Clara and Danny, the great chemistry between Clara and the Doctor, I especially liked in season 8 that Clara's apartment is often shown. It gets cozy that way.
The Doctor's crisis, Capaldi, is certainly wonderful. A monster that doesn't seem to be a monster. And the ending, of course. I understand that many people are bombed by Clara and her trip to Gallifrey?? But after the finale of season 9, everything just becomes so logical. Well, it was shot, of course, very beautifully. Lots of nice shots, colors. I also like this series because it is Moffat's and is not related in plot to the rest of the Moffat series. Blink, the Beast is below. He should write like that more often.

It's a pity that they didn't pull off the blanket and see what was behind the door, I would still like to know.
And for some reason it seems to me that the second Pink has nothing to do with Clara. I don't believe they'll stay together. And the time line that the Tardis was on was not hers, but Rupert/Dan's.
The moment in the barn was touching) I was only surprised that in order to become a Timelord, you need to enroll in some kind of Academy, but there is no such thing in the army. Is a Timelord a title after all, and not the name of a race?..

@KookyKooky: The Gallifreyans are a humanoid race whose home planet is Gallifrey. Not all of its representatives are Time Lords, but only a certain part, so to speak, the elite of Gallifreyan society. In fact, a Gallifreyan could gain access to the TARDIS, but this in no way made him a Time Lord.
The Time Lords (sometimes called Time Lords or, less frequently, Chronarchs) are the oligarchic rulers of the planet Gallifrey. They are one of the oldest and most powerful civilizations in the universe.
Well, as Emil said, Gallifreyan is a race. And Time Lord is a title once you graduate from the Academy.

It's the same with Dr. Donna and the one who turned out with her and stayed with Rose.

@kate_archer: As I said 7 years ago XD, Time Lord is a title. If we take into account that during the "Time War" the entire universe shuddered under the power of two races: the Time Lords and the Daleks.
It should be mentioned that only Time Lords have access (ability) to regenerate, which is not available to ordinary Gallifreyans.
And yet, most likely, the name Time Lord itself is more widely known than Gallifreyan.
If we exaggerate the concepts, then: The Time Lords are a Caucasoid race, and the Gallifreyans are an Australoid race.

Awesome series!
But I read the comments here and was surprised - did I misunderstand everything? After all, in my opinion, there were no monsters. Most likely, another child hid on the bed under the covers, who wanted to scare Rupert, there was no one behind the door at the end of the world, these were the very temperature changes that the Doctor talked about, there are no monsters that are perfectly able to hide... This is all a product of the Doctor's paranoia, which appeared due to the fact that Clara grabbed his leg in the night, getting into the barn where he slept as a child, as a result of his investigation, which was prompted by this paranoia, which appeared ... :) Another vicious circle in the life of a Time Lord :) And that's what makes this series so incredible - it's a story about our fears, about our imagination. Before that, the authors took some traditional horror stories and turned them into monsters in the Doctor's world, here Moffat took a horror story, scared everyone, and then showed that in the Doctor's universe there are horror stories that arise from scratch. That's exactly the kind of series I've missed since the days of Blink, The girl in the fireplace and Midnight!

@энита: 1. In DWM 481, following Danny's death in Death in Heaven, Steven Moffat stated that one possible explanation is that Orson was a lateral descendant of Danny's. According to this theory, Clara contacted Danny's relatives after his death and told them of his sacrifice.

Wow, Moffat! As always, handsome. I haven't lost my grip on creepy scenarios. For almost the entire episode, I kept looking over my shoulder, it was very uncomfortable.

Some ambiguity remains after the episode, because it is still not clear to the end whether there really is something under the bed that is always somewhere near us, or whether the Doctor has bored himself and others out of boredom.

By the way, the trick is with missing objects, which then are not in their place. Do you remember how many times you lost your keys, TV remote control, pen or smartphone right at home, which were then out of place? Is it really your absent-mindedness or not?.. Has your "companion" already crawled out from under the bed? Boo!!!
