That's why the rich people in this series are assholes. Because they, like the Malfoys, care about the purity of blood, lol, and not about the happiness of their daughter. Even to recall this shameful mating with a bunch of sons of noble families with Rory in the previous series. It's just disgusting.
It bothered me even when I watched the series for the first time at school. It will always be insufficient. Lorelei will never be a good enough daughter, because she doesn't do what her parents say. Luke won't be a good enough man for their daughter, because he's not her mate initially.
