I would say that the stories are closely related within the framework of two episodes of the series, but there are so many strange plot moves, everything is so incoherent and hurried that you simply do not believe in what is happening. Triffids act as a background for a generally rather mediocre and banal post-up. Replace them with the same zombies and little will change. It feels like the authors don't really like the original book and filmed it purely for show.
There are such good film adaptations that you can safely watch and love them, even without ever hearing about the original source. And there are some so bad that without the original source, no one would care about them. This miniseries obviously belongs to the latter, and it's sad. Does not really lead Wyndham with film adaptations
