The line with Egwene's submission turned out to be strong, cruel and convincing. They've learned to break recalcitrant Seanchan, no matter what you say. Also with such a deliberately friendly and patient attitude... And the way Egwene's last breaking and Raima's battle were parallelized also made an impression. Sul'dam, twisted into a knot by Force, is still a sight. The meeting of Rand and Mat warmed the soul a little, but was it really only for so short a time that they met? It shouldn't be like this. Most likely, Matt will still join his friend, maybe he will want to help him in this meeting with Lan and the others. They need to be in Falma anyway, even if Ishamael thinks it's in fulfillment of his plans.
A difficult series, it was very difficult to watch. The acting in the episode about Egwene is great! Now I felt what it meant to be a Damane, and why Egwene hated Seanchan so much. This is a very canonical episode about her, almost word for word. Uff... and the fact that the Yellow Aes Sedai is played by a black woman and at the same time she talks about slavery and becomes a slave herself, this is just such a powerful cultural trigger for the American audience. The writers took it cool, it just increases the intensity very much.
About Rand. Despite the fact that the external events around him are changed compared to the book, but I liked how his growing distrust of both Aes Sedai and the Forsaken showed. He really remains alone. And I feel that in the next episode we will learn about the secret of Portal Stones.
Lanfear is awesome, she's still a bitch, but what a bitch! Amazing! And it's cool to show how she conducts her intrigue against Ishamael.
The rest of the episode is, of course, a hodgepodge of everything. And there is a twofold feeling. Yes, I like the episode and at the same time it's like a passing episode, forcing and leaving more questions by the end of the season.
@fb1273958: the scene with the yellow one just broke my heart, and then you noticed coolly that it coincided with historical slavery, and the scene really seemed even deeper, tin, very powerfully played
Great series. Egwene's line is practically word for word from books. They showed how terrible Seanchan are when it comes to women who can direct. The fact that they don't even consider them to be people. The actress Egwene played an amazing role. I can already see how this will affect the character and her attitude towards the Seanchan.
Elaine didn't do much in this episode, but what her interest in theangreals shows is a very cool moment, especially for the future. I was also pleased that they mentioned the creation of the first aidam. A purely lorny moment, which did not play a special role for the cycle, but it was very pleasant to hear.
The interaction between Rand and Lanfear is amazing. The actors have excellent chemistry. Yes, the revelation is much earlier than the book and this will affect all their dynamics, but I like the implementation. Interestingly, in the series Lanfear showed him Egwene and informed him that she was at Ishamael's Cape Toman. Not at all like in the books, but the result is the same. All the paths of the main characters lead to Falma.
The reunion of Matt and Rand turned out to be very pleasant. Especially Matt's tease about Rand being a Dragon Reborn and that Matt wouldn't let him be an arrogant nobleman in fancy clothes. Yes, the place and the reasons are different, but they conveyed the meaning.
Perhaps the most incomprehensible and controversial for me is the Min. In books, her visions always came true. Will they follow the same path here? Unclear. It is clear that in the books Min was the most "simple" in terms of motivation and other things, but it made sense, given her history. In the series, she, like some other characters, was made deeper. It remains only to see whether it will benefit further or not.
Here is Liandrin definitely an example of how it would seem to be a "one-celled" character and turn him into an incredibly interesting one. And here the whole depth is absolutely to the face. The actress contributes in many ways. I think her role will be expanded in comparison with the books. It would be foolish to lose such a talent.
@Ien_Kelly: Glad that Rand and Lan are finally together again. There's not much time left before Falme, it's time to practice a little on swords, tell some tricks and teach how to behave in front of the Amyrlin Throne. Again, the timing was changed, but at the same time almost all the characters were delivered. So we are waiting for a certain cast from the initial chapters of the Great Hunt. There is every chance that it will turn out cool.
Alanna knows that Rand is a Dragon. This... interesting. Let's see how it will affect the future history.
The Moiraine line directly screams that there was practically no such thing in the Great Hunt. Family drama, being cut off from the Source by Ishamael, conflict with Lan. It is clear that they did not want to withdraw Pike from the series for almost the entire season, but the implementation turned out to be very weak. Her character remained. Loyalty to the Dragon and the intention to bring him to the Last Battle, too. But there was too much drama added to it. Fortunately, part of it will end in the next episode, because it's time to leave Cairhien.
It is noticeable that 8 episodes are not enough at all. Especially in terms of movement. They had to rush everyone to Cairhien to recreate the scenes. But in the series, it's literally shown as if it's a trivial matter. Yes, Tar Valon, Caemlyn and Cairhien are not as far apart as from some Falme or Tanchico, but it's still a long distance. And then Alanna reports that the Amyrlin is in Caemlyn. And after a couple of scenes, Lan already finds Xuan. And a couple of scenes later, all the Aes Sedai from the Tower are also part of the delegation to Cairhien. Yes, most likely there was a time skip. But it's all very well shown...sharply. And it immediately catches the eye.
The most important question is how we will get to Falme. And although there are Ways, I will hope to the last that they will screen the Portal Stones and everything that came with them. One of the best chapters of the cycle, after all.
@Ien_Kelly: The dagger strike from the vision will probably come true, but it probably won't lead to death. Although this does not quite coincide with how her visions unfolded in the cycle.
I agree about Liandrin, I still keep the assumption that Elaida's future line will be added to her, although it seems to have been mentioned in the news that Elaida will still appear as a separate character.
@Ien_Kelly: I agree about Liandrin, her character has become more thoughtful with a well-lived motivation to go over to the Dark Side: not only a thirst for power, but a desire for revenge, to save her son. So they probably want to deepen the haratker Mines like this.
@Zy4: well, according to the Seanchan book, men who could direct were killed right away. and about the ring for men ... perhaps this will be shown to us too, only in season 4 or 5th (if the series reaches this point. I would really like to!)
Egwene's line surpassed everything in this episode. very well played!
when Lyall started singing so beautifully, and even creating such a sacrament, and everyone around laughed hideously, I swear, it physically hurt me for a moment!
Egwene's line was really cool. And the actress did well. I like Matt, even if he is a little (so far, I hope), and also, by the way, the actor plays great, it's easy, without tension. That's what you need. I like Liandrin's changes, she is simpler in books, her motivation is also simpler, but here she turns out to be a more voluminous character.
The dialogue between Liandrin and Lanfear makes no sense at all. If the dark side of the force was unable to provide her with a healthy son, then the deal should be canceled. Some kind of scam.
@camilla_foxie: It's unlikely to be revealed in detail in the series, so I don't think it's a spoiler. The first ai'dam was created for Luteir Paindrag, who was the son of King Arthur Hawkwing, who conquered almost the entire continent, and led this overseas expedition. Lutair, like his father, hated the Force and those who used it, and that Aes Sedai hoped that such a means of control would help him win and as a result begin to trust Aes Sedai in general. He managed to win (the expedition eventually conquered the entire continent and founded the Seanchan Empire), but about trust... Well, we see it this way :)
