Full of stars. I'm used to Emma choosing weird projects to put it mildly, but there's a line. Here, this edge flew into space, like Asher and my cuckoo. I have two theories - 1) flight is a metaphor for the disappearance of the father from the child's life when he is not ready for responsibility; 2) a metaphor for suicide, since the last 9 episodes of Asher were not brought to him by everyone who was not lazy.
If before this series I still saw as one of the main ideas that super-tolerance and respect for others is absurd, and most people pretend to be tolerant when they are not (like Whitney, who in her tolerance went into complete cringe and nationalism and racism). But now... yeah

That's what he meant when he said "sometimes you have to go to extreme lengths to make your point" :)

To be honest, I haven't figured out how I feel about the finale yet...

What, I'm sorry
This is probably the most unexpected ending since Enemy for me.

9 episodes to escalate the relationship of the characters, so that as a result:
Asher talked about curse the whole series, no one believed him and made fun of him, and, as a result, the same attitude of others killed him. He gave all his attention and care to his wife, but did not even protect himself from her;
Daggy suffered for his wife, deep inside he knew that he was to blame for her death, but he did everything possible to absolve himself of responsibility, and as a result, he put his hand to Asher's death so that he could suffer for a couple of moments and minutes later calmly tell the police everything;
Whitney was ashamed of her husband, considered herself superior and better than him, thought about divorce, and as a result, she was conveniently left alone without unnecessary complicated conversations and confessions, which she could only do behind her back.
everyone got exactly what they were going for, but in this way...

it turned out to be a good project, but with its flaws. a bunch of scenes that stretch much longer than they should, a lot of branches that didn't get their completion (jeans? The casino? Fernando?). some directorial decisions raise questions.
but I don't regret watching it at all.

@Ecler_eclerushka: I really don't quite understand the metaphor of rebirth. Asher was pulled out of the womb of the house and the umbilical cord was cut in parallel with the birth of the mini-Asher. Of course, he gave out "I'm a little baby" a couple of times during the season, and a snake pendant symbol of rebirth was presented to those residents, but what's the idea here?

@ecler_eclerushka: I'm wondering where the high-high (not in the mountains), oohs were heard. Are these orgasms or fathers whose women are now giving birth and also flying away?
Yes, and when the second firefighter got in, I had the idea that he was going to be injected with something, but no. Still, the girl cut down))
I was still burning from "who's going to pay the house tax?? Well, let's do it." Sit on your neck and hang your legs so to the end, as they say)
It's a pity, there was very little Daggy in the last episode.
I also don't regret watching an episode a week)
In early January, Nolan moderated a Q&a on the Curse, I have not yet come across a recording of this meeting, but it is interesting to take a look) other Q&a on the network)

I can't even find the words to say what it was
One question, why, and what did they try to convey to us with this series?

A great ending. In episode 9, he says something like "if you want, I'll disappear", in episode 10, he says "a little me is growing in you" and you can see a mixture of horror and emptiness on her face. So he disappeared)

Well, this is a great post-modernist TV series turned out, in some places it even reminded Twin Peaks 2017

The ending turned out to be cool. It's a great show, it's way out of the pattern. Emma is just an amazing actress, I didn't think she was so cool, she plays great.

ДА уж, до последний серии сериал шёл спокойно как хороший сериал с интересной задумкой, но последняя серия это П**ДЕЦ сюр
//
На последней серии я просто погрузился в экран и думал: "Что же будет дальше?". На столько необычно это было смотреть.
Так ещё и моя любимая Эмма в каст сериала, АХ*Й.

Well, gentlemen weirdos who watched this series. I promised someone there, under the fifth episode, an analysis of the last one, so here it is.

First of all, it was fucking awesome. But this is not an analysis, these are emotions.

I would venture to suggest that Escher flying into space is a very simple symbol. The symbol of the biblical ascension (which is rapture). At the end of the ninth episode, Asher, having the opportunity to see himself from the outside, through the eyes of other people, finally realized that he was not a good person. The idea of the need to be a good person comes through a lot of artistic works (listen to the song I'm a Good Person from the TV series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, for example). The point is always that a person wants to be good so much and is so afraid of not being good that he constantly lies to himself, protects himself in front of himself, ignores the facts, just not to doubt his own goodness. Something like a defense mechanism of the psyche against existential horror. Therefore, the act of realizing oneself to be "not good" leads to spiritual purification. You admit to yourself all your mistakes, take responsibility for them and find God in yourself (if anything, I'm not pushing religious propaganda here, but trying to interpret symbolism. Religious symbolism can be found in countless works of art, so to deny yourself this prism is to limit yourself very severely). Escher in the last episode is not at all the same as in the previous ones. Until the moment of his takeoff, he is calm, confident. He undoubtedly gives the house to Abshir and his family, says that material goods are not important to him. He tells Whitney that he accepts her into his faith, even though she is not Jewish. He's recognizable, of course, and still awkward, but there's something new about him. (the whole text did not fit into one post, so the continuation is in the answer)

And against this background, it is very clear that the other characters are not there at all yet. Whitney, for her part, did not realize herself to be "bad". Her act in the ninth episode, although necessary for Asher on his way, is extremely cruel to him, and she does not know it. She wanted to hurt him, to push him away. Abshir is being ungrateful. Dougie, who has been acting like a bastard all season, hiding behind his dead wife, does not listen to Escher and does not believe him, and even at the very end, when they are sawing a branch, does not listen to Escher's pleas to stop them. But he's the only one who seems to understand something. Who saw a miracle and repented. At the end, he is on his knees and begs for forgiveness. Everyone else around, firefighters and onlookers, are indifferent to what is happening. None of them believes their eyes or their ears. They are still far from realizing themselves.

It's a great series. Difficult, heavy, painful, uncomfortable. Sometimes it was very difficult for me to break through it. But I knew, I saw that he was talking to me about something very necessary and important. And I am grateful to Nathan Fielder, Benny Safdie and Emma Stone for this experience.
