Description
Paul Baumer and his friends Albert and Muller, egged on by romantic dreams of heroism, voluntarily enlist in the German army. Full of excitement and patriotic fervour, the boys enthusiastically march into a war they believe in. But once on the Western Front, they discover the soul-destroying horror of World War I.
The movie is great. Excellent camerawork, wonderful actors and amazing musical accompaniment (available in Apple Music, in case anyone is looking).
There are fewer films about the First World War than about the Second. And in general, there is less talk about it in the Russian Federation than in Germany or, for example, the UK (the British often call it The Great War).
To anyone interested in the topic, I recommend Peter Jackson's film They Shall Not Grow Old. This is an innovative documentary, which the director collected from various archival video, photo and audio materials. And not just assembled, but restored in such a way that the people on the film look like they are alive.
He achieved such a phenomenal effect due to the fact that he changed the frame rate and the width of the frame, and also added color to the film.
The film is very high quality, special effects, acting, the horrors of war all look authentic.
In addition, you can see 1917 (https://www.kinopoisk.ru/film/1171976 /)
In Russia, it is mandatory to view.
Where are the wonderful, magnificent dialogues? Where is friendship? How are the characters revealed, and does anyone even remember their names after viewing, if they haven't read the book? How is the life of a soldier at the front shown? How is the cohesion of the guys shown? Where are the preparation scenes that reflected how a person who has received a grain of power changes? Where are the scenes that show how Paul was returning home on vacation, realizing how disconnected he is from his usual life, how disconnected the peaceful population is from what is happening at the front? Where are the hospital scenes? Where are the reflections of Paul and his friends that they have nothing to return to, the arguments that they are a lost generation.
The film might have been nothing if it hadn't tried to chop off a piece of the glory of Remarque's novel, while absolutely not matching it. The film has got such a big name for itself, but in fact it is a dummy. Those who advise everyone to watch the movie - come to your senses! Ate shit - OK, bon appetit, do not offer others. In isolation from the book - maybe, but this is not the case.
The book needs to be read by everyone, and this is a passing film, of which there are thousands.
I agree about some things, not enough.
But in total, we achieved the effect of reflecting what a person turns into during the fighting.
The author makes HIS vision of the book and no more.
How he imagined it, imagined it, and sees it.
If you want the plot of the book, take the book and read it there will be a Remark's look.
This film has a different script writer and director, not a Remark.
The name "On the Western front without change" appeared from the summaries of German newspapers during those events.
You can appeal to them with the same success, and not to Remarque's novel.
Seriously
I recommend the 1930 film to everyone
it is in good quality and it is better in everything
also better than this version
Great movie
Heavy
It will definitely not leave you indifferent
It shows well the senselessness of wars...
No wonder 9 Oscar nominations
Я имел ввиду бессмысленность войны
Of course, I didn't have enough scenes, but still I liked the film as a whole
There are much deeper films on this topic, so the opinion about this tape was formed on the basis of what was viewed earlier.
