I decided to join the cult franchise with an army of fans. What a thrasher!!! Even by the standards of the 80s thrash. Obviously a penny horror movie with amateur filming and worse than even amateur acting. But... I got hooked on something. I was intrigued by what they were filming next. I'm running to watch the sequel.)

@Mysherry: you haven't watched the predecessor of In The woods yet...
The money was really small, but you approached the matter with inspiration and talent. Therefore, as soon as the film could be brought to a mass audience, it became popular and received sequels.

Everything in this movie is terrible: the script, makeup, plot, suspense, acting.. There may be a cult, of course, but still there are films from even earlier years that look good even now. I give one star only for the first and final shots, they really impressed.

@dust_space: can I have some examples - what are you comparing them with?

@Gastrolith: banal "Godfather", looks decent in our time. There are no cheap-looking special effects and "theatrical" scenes

@dust_space: To say that the comparison is strange is to say nothing.
The Godfather is a major studio film based on the book, which became the best-selling at the time and the film rights to which were bought before its release. The leader of the 1972 rental, who scored 2+ times more money than the second place - "The Adventure of Poseidon". The budget of the film is $6 million, while the budget of "Poseidon" about the flipping of an ocean liner is $5 million. With all this, the film still looks good, but in some places the influence of time is clearly visible. At least in the presentation of the material, at least in practical effects.
And a horror film shot in 1980 from fans with a budget of 350 thousand dollars who had little other than enthusiasm, so the film itself crawled to a limited release only in 1983. "Radiance" in the 80th took the 12th place in fees and cost $20 million, "Friday, the 13th" cost $550 thousand and was in 15th place, but this is a studio The film and budget are almost 2 times larger than that of the Dead.
The makeup wasn't up to scratch right away, but it's been seen worse. The plot, suspense, and acting have simply passed the test of time - this is a cult that is still alive with 3 more parts, a TV series, a remake, games, and comics. You'd better compare it with a film of the same genre and level so that the comparison is correct.

@dust_space: everything in this comment is terrible: syllable, avatar, nickname, thought, literacy... Maybe such an opinion has the right to life, of course, but still there are comments from even earlier years that are well read even now. I give a thumbs down just for having the courage to say such a stupid thing, it really impressed me.

And I liked it, of course there is no logic at all, but if you perceive it as an art house, then it's normal. I especially laughed at the end, when the monsters began to decompose, you could see the plasticine makeup 😆

I watched it for the first time in 2024 and, in principle, the film hooked me with its creepiness. And if you really evaluate it as an art house, then there is a solid 4. Sam's debut gave him a boost and more budget for his further films, but Bruce was not taken seriously despite his charisma and facial expressions, which by the way is not inferior to Jim Carrey.

Sam Raimi's entire trilogy is amazing! Those years gave the world a lot of horror films that have become iconic. I still enjoy watching these films 🩷
And now, these rumors were spreading all over the village.
That evil spirits lurk in the churchyard at night
They scare all the passersby with themselves.
They scream, howl, and sometimes bite.
People are afraid to walk past the cemetery at night
At least pay them a few bucks.
But they run over and fly over to the side
To avoid meeting that otherworldly punks
And they don't talk well about that ruined place.
So we should stick together.
We've been hunting for spirits for a long time.
Well, here in the village there's just a whole wagon and a cart.
It's a remote place here, and the people are dark, in general.
But we will teach them everything and we will destroy the animals.

We are the valiant warriors of light
We are the chosen Knights of the Holy Covenant
