I think of Solomon Kane as Geralt of Rivia in minimal terms. Not in terms of being worse, but in terms of being an ordinary person without any superhuman abilities.

They cast a very brutal and charismatic actor for the role of Kane.

To date, the special effects, of course, leave much to be desired. There is a lot of blood and cruelty in the film, but this could be assumed based on the annotation. In general, it seemed to be interesting to watch, but everything is quite predictable.

@YuluaR: the film is from 2009, so your phrase about special effects confuses me with its lack of logic. How can 2009 and the present be compared??? Well, you can also compare the films of the 80s. And by the way, there are just a lot of movies with clumsy computer graphics right now, which generally looks unrealistic.

@dashkevch96: The Lord of the Rings was released almost 10 years before this movie. Avatar was released in the same year, so digging into special effects is quite justified. The fact that there are worse films now is also no excuse.

I don't want to criticize the film, because I like the stories about it. And the image is straight good, no complaints. Is there not enough depth film? So in the original there is more adventure and action than some kind of drama. So everything is clear here. But what exactly can and should be criticized for is dirt, rain and filters. Everything is very drowned in this, it is already unpleasant to the eye. Monsters are boring too: balrog, nazgul and a dozen zombies.
As for me, the creators could have made quite a good series (fortunately, there is enough material), but they encroached on a full meter, and here the material is not the best, and they themselves messed up

Personally, unlike the previous commenter, I rather liked the dirt, rain and filters. It's not often that you see a straight dark fantasy in full meter. And here it turned out just right. The setting reminded me most of Warhammer Fantasy.

But still, there was no interesting plot in this interesting setting.

@chaotickgood: Let me make a bet. Dark fantasy is not mud and rain, but rather depression and the inevitability of disaster. But the lack of an interesting plot is the trouble of the original source. There, the misadventures of the gg and the description of the situation come out in the first place. A kind of Lovecraft on minimals.

@izkrys: on the other hand, this does not mean that the film cannot be criticized for this, in my opinion, the film should be an independent work and not expect the reader to know the original source.

I haven't read the book, but I plan to. But I didn't get the movie. The beginning seemed confusing to me, I still didn't understand who Kane was a filibuster or a regular captain of Great Britain. I still have a question, when did he make a deal with the devil that his soul was cursed? What kind of girl is this and why doesn't she figure out who he saved from his brother? Why did he have such a difficult relationship with his father? And for some reason, I didn't like the moment where he decided to get drunk instead of really finding out if she was dead or not. In short, I didn't like the movie, I left a lot of questions, I hope the book will explain.
