In the Lynch movie Eraserhead, the main character also had a photo of a nuclear explosion on the wall, as in Gordon Cole's office in this series :-) Well, on the opposite wall, there is a portrait of Lynch's favorite writer, Franz Kafka.

I watched season 3 right after the first two and you know, it's not that. There is no warmth and atmosphere from watching - gatherings in a cafe with wonderful coffee, donuts and pie, silly but funny jokes... A little fake love scenes added to the charm of the TP of the 90s. The characters will forever remain in my memory forever young, I hope that Audrey, Leo (no matter how bad he was), Pete, Annie, etc. survived. At least, that's what I want to think.

@AlysaAnnMay: I came here looking for such a comment. It feels as if Lynch just decided to insert a lot of surrealism and mystification, forgetting why we love Twin Peaks, for its lampiness and atmosphere and a little bit of incomprehensibility) I really liked the previous two seasons and the FWWM movie with the missing pieces. But what's going on is these three episodes... it is difficult and tedious slightly(
@yoggik: TP fans are divided into 3 types:

1. Those who have logged in for 2 seasons, but the third one did not log in.

I really like the new Twin Peaks, this is exactly the kind of surrealism I wanted from the first seasons, such a viscous atmosphere. From the series, this one became a masterpiece for me. It was absolutely logical to remove the melodrama from the series and leave only psychedelics and mysticism. After all, fans have been waiting for so many years to continue, not because of love triangles and a warm atmosphere, but because of the dancing dwarf in the red room.

It's probably worth admiring Lynch's genius in the form of all this psychedelic stuff that's been going on for most of the series...but just give me back the good old Twin Peaks, where mystics are just a neat pinch, leaving an indescribable aftertaste and a desire to return to the unique atmosphere of a chamber detective.

@Ali_kolli: I subscribe. 5 episodes have been watched, and so far Twin Peaks in each for five minutes - no more. How important it is to control talent (see Twin Peaks 1990). Now Lynch has completely untied his hands, do what you want, that's what they got - psychedelic for the sake of psychedelic (Twin Peaks 2017). Still, there was a reason that Mark Frost's name used to be above Lynch's name in the credits.

@NotItemName: my personal opinion, but I'm still a fan of that kind of genius, when all the plot threads eventually turn out to be closely connected and intertwined, and when every detail takes its place in the outline of the overall plot, and you understand why there was this or that seemingly strange act. and here, as I understand it, you don't have to wait. of course, everything does not always have to be "chewed up and put in your mouth," but when you know in advance that absolutely nothing will be explained to you, and all this sur, which simply went beyond any boundaries of even the slightest understanding, will not be understood in any way in the end.. this makes me sad (and doubly sad from the fact that fans of purely Lynchian creativity, perhaps, get high from the above, and those people who fell in love with the good old Twin Peaks with all their hearts are forced, I apologize for the rudeness, to "swallow" all this wild and incomprehensible in order to look at it for five minutes out of fifty favorite old heroes..

I don't understand all the whiners who lack the lampiness of previous seasons. Firstly, it was, remember the ending of the last episode, and secondly, is a typical soap serial, which the second season slipped into without Lynch, better than this High Art that he is creating now?

He fucked up my brain with this series, fucked up all the TV series and most of the movies. Revolution and identity, when (if) in 10 years all the series will be like this, those who are now "dropped", who whine "where is my lampiness?", will be ashamed, although they will probably be passionate about watching the 22nd season of Supernatural.

I see you like being fucked. For health. But you don't need to impose your orientation on others.
I'm not arguing that season 3 is on a certain level, it has its advantages. If it were a separate series, I wouldn't complain. But this is a continuation of TP. Although, comparing seasons 1 and 2 with 3m, it seems that these are completely different shows. And this difference does not suit me.

P.S. And yes, the "serial soap" of the 2nd season is better than the "High Art" of the 3rd (IMHO)

@Mr_Persik: 25 years have passed! 25! did you really think that nothing had changed in Lynch's life, or in the life of the country and the world in general, in 25 years? It was the time before September 11th, before the fucking mass Internet. How could this series not have changed in 25 years?

As for orientation, you have bent it low, in a selfish way, it is obvious in what sense I used this word. And I'm not imposing anything, I'm just sharing my "IMHO" that's different from yours, and that's fine. I don't know why you have so much aggression and desire to incriminate me.

And if you really don't like season 3, why the fuck are you watching it at all? from the series, the hedgehogs cried, stabbed, but continued to eat the cactus.

The series is developing, and that's fine, but you with your "duckling syndrome" can't understand the simple truth that you can't step into the same river twice, especially 25 years later!
FairyDream
FairyDream
28 Jun 2017, 15:16 #
@Imperators: And what does duckling syndrome have to do with it? The series is called "season 3". Not "Twin Peaks. Restart". Not "Twin Peaks. Rethinking." And "Twin Peaks. The return." The third season is what people watch immediately after the first and second seasons.
It's logical to expect something in the spirit of the first seasons from the sequel - and that's exactly what people expected. A detective with a dash of devilry. The lampiness and coziness. Melodrama and plot. Secrets and crazy girls. Did they get it? - no.
And it's hard to blame people whose expectations have not been fulfilled. Perhaps the marketing company that promised us the same story is to blame for this. Something else is possible, but the fact remains. It's an interesting, original, and fascinating sight, but it's not Twin Peaks.

don't know what people got or didn't get, I can't judge for everyone, I got what I wanted, and even more. Secrets? To hell with it! Is she crazy? Full pockets. Lampiness? Have. A melodrama? Imagine that, too.

It's really stupid and ridiculous to hear about any expectations when the series became known a year or two ago. And before that, there were no plans, no stirring of interest, no one promised that this series would be. What expectations can we talk about?

After watching this episode, I gave up and decided to watch 3.5 hours of the movie, supplemented with cut scenes, otherwise I realized that I would get completely stuck (before that, I watched the regular version a few years ago, but I safely forgot even that). The story didn't get any clearer, but I got the feeling that at least I knew the material.
A bunch of seemingly insignificant details and parallels immediately became noticeable: the notorious ring, the conversation between the evil Cooper and comrade Philip, the numb hands of Teresa and Dougie, the blue rose, even the numbers on the pole in the trailer park and on the satanic device where Cooper was dragged away. If only I knew what it all meant)
In any case, I strongly recommend reading the extended version to anyone who missed it, and who didn't, maybe it's worth reviewing it)

In general, the series is not for everyone. "Surre for the sake of surre." It feels like flipping through a magazine: a beautiful picture, scattered plots. And it's disappointing. There are no answers and there won't be any. Does anyone remember that the series began as a detective story? Okay, we dropped the detective story and went into mysticism. Well, now what's going on on the screen? In my opinion, they overdid it with inadequacy and unnecessarily prolonged scenes. No, with our brains of simple hard workers, we can't do such high-art.

In short, no one gets up in the morning, drinks coffee, but just silently wanders through space with a visible blink in the spirit of a second-rate space opera. Hello, my name is Katerina, and I am one of those who enjoyed the first three episodes more than the previous two seasons. Okay, well, more than the second half of the second season. But more on that later, let's go to sabzh.
I'm so excited about these parallel worlds that Cooper went on tour through, who would know! And how beautifully it is depicted, and the purple haze, and this stunning granite gray in the room... The Asian woman with her eyes sewn shut is a clear reference, and not just to Josie. It's an interesting move with rewinding and deceleration, and the rustle is like scrolling through a film, and this sound makes me grind my teeth every time, brr.
Briggs is even logical in space, given his specialization. Of all the explanations of the meaning of the "blue rose", I like the one where it says that it is an allusion to unexplained events.
Interestingly, in the Black Lodge, you can't go back to the same place twice and pick up the same thing. And the numbers on the safe are the same as Cooper's room key-3 and 15.
Daggy put me in a stupor at first, and then this move even delighted me, what a craftsman Bob was, how he deceived everyone. Although, I have a theory that it's just another alternate world, too, because I was confused by the street named Sycamore. But on the other hand, why would he need Teresa Banks' ring?.. Complicated, complicated XD
The tearing scene is disgusting, but it's creepy.
The lost Cooper is a bit too cute, even like that.
How beautifully the sun broke through the fir trees over the sheriff's station *_* The trio of Bully, Andy and Hawk are beautiful in any century.
The figure in the cube looks like both Cooper and that dead chick with the severed head.
I was so excited to see Gordon and even more so Albert! I wonder which Cooper they found, a half-dead doppelganger or one with a broken memory? I can't believe it was so easy for him to come back.

@chch93: And now about the fact that "Twin Peaks is no longer a cake." I understand those who miss the closeness of previous seasons, the unsightly humor, the absurd situations of the situation, the love affairs and the triangular triangles. They were even charming when mixed in proportions with mysticism and investigations. But when Lynch was swept away to shoot in new distances away from TP, the amount of intrigue a la "Donna's father is the neighbor across the street" exceeded a square kilometer, when, for example, I was more delirious all the way from all these evil spirits from the forest. Yes, there's still a lack of romance in this season, yes, it's tougher and more modern, yes, there's too much fantasy. Modern times dictate new laws, and naturally, no one forces me to put up with them, as well as with strange scenes where a sudden drug addict sits and gets addicted, and I don't like that either. But in general, the new season reveals something that was not given to me in the past - the history of the dimension, all these spirits and monsters, and I'm thrilled. I don't pretend to be the truth with my opinion, it's just that too much has changed in a quarter of a century to curl up around the problems of one town again. And it's too early to judge, there are still 15 episodes ahead. Although, again, I understand the disappointment of nostalgic people when you don't see what you wanted.

Well, in general, judging by the comments above, the audience is really divided into Lynch fans and "a lot of inexplicable, drawn-out, but beautifully shot," fans of the old Twin Peaks lamp of the first season and a half and "exciting intrigue, world, characters, relationships and mysticism," and those who mysteriously enter both)
I'll probably say this: if Lynch had said that he was filming the third season, or even better, a separate series based on Twin Peaks, then the third season would have completely satisfied me in any format as an interesting author's creation "on the theme."
But in order to really love the third season after the first and half of the second season (before everything goes to hell), I think you have to be a fan of Lynch's work. In this series, most of it is Lynch's beautiful self-expression, and the scenes with the old characters in Twin Peaks are given frankly for show, so that the viewer does not stop watching at all.
The topic of doppelgangers is interesting. Cooper, I wonder if he moves like this because the connection between the brain and the body is lost?
I was glad to see Gordon and Albert, of course.

The first 3 episodes are just Fire. That's exactly what I wanted from the new season, a lot of surrealism and madness. Personally, they are more important to me than the cozy closeness of the first two seasons.

Sycamore is a sycamore tree. At 30:15, the name of the street where Cooper was driving with a prostitute was shown in close-up. They were the ones who created the circle for the entrance to the Black Wigwam, and in the movie (and in the TV series, too, when Cooper went to the Wigwam, if I'm not mistaken), a song called Under Sycamore Trees was played.

This is some kind of mockery. First of all, as I understand it, you can only watch it when you're stoned to be blown away by what's happening in a good way, not a bad one. Secondly, they absolutely do not want to show us the rest of the characters of the town of Twin Peaks, but only tease. Thirdly, there is no previous atmosphere, it's like a completely different series, but with the same name. To watch just for the sake of the picture, well, such a thing, because there is no plot here. Lynch has a bad feeling that the season will end with nothing. There's so much vulgarity in the series, bare boobs, why is that necessary? In the 90s, the series was a breakthrough, something that had never happened before - it was incredible. Lynch wanted to surprise me again, in a bad way.

It really sucks. Episode 3 was the last point to stop watching it, and leave only the old TP in my head. Vulgarity, boobs, lack of atmosphere, unraveling mysteries — why? A lot of my friends really enjoyed the third season, but no. I'm not ready to change my impression of the lampiness of the first two seasons.

It was nice spending time with you, Twin Peaks. One of my favorite TV series <3

The picture is not the same as in the first two seasons, the atmosphere is lost, the first half of the series is so-so, there was a lack of character interaction and elementary dialogues. To say that nothing is clear is an understatement, but paradoxically, the more incomprehensible it is, the more interesting it is. I already want to see Cooper's face with at least some emotions, he's already fucked up along the way.

There are only whiners in the comments. What did you expect from Season 3? A continuation of the dreary mess with James and Donna? Or what?
The same atmosphere will also be gone, at least because in the age of digital content, no one shoots movies on film that gives special colors and grain.
For me, season 3 is a logical continuation of the second, because at the end of it, mostly questions related to the origin of Bob, the black wigwam and other evil spirits remained unsolved. And whether Audrey will stay with Jack and whether Ben Horn is Donna's father is already a melodrama that is not mandatory for disclosure.

@Dorea_Potter: Daggy is Cooper, his dark incarnation. He showed up like that in the last episode. The only question is why Cooper ended up in that house, although this may be how the situation played out, as it was with the headmaster. In the last episode, there were fingerprints of the director, but the director could have been easily framed. So far, I personally have a lot of questions, but I also have guesses about certain moments at the beginning of season 3 and about the series as a whole. I will watch and maybe then the denouement will begin) Anyway, it's interesting to watch.

@Dorea_Potter: I understand that this is the same evil Cooper doppelganger who escaped from the Lodge, and that perhaps both of them cannot be in the same world. so they kind of switched places - the doppelganger returned to the Lodge, and Cooper returned to the ordinary world.

If I hadn't known that this was a continuation of my favorite series, and if there hadn't been rare shots of my hometown of Twin Peaks, I would have turned it off for the 1st episode without hesitation. It's terribly long, and there are some incomprehensible storylines in other cities. The old seasons were a treat, in one go, everything is so balanced. And here... They turned it into a cheap horror movie with psychedelics, stuffing nudity into each episode along the way. I really hope that things will get better.
Captain_Phasma
Captain_Phasma

@Murphy_: Personally, it seems to me that Lynch just decided to tell the viewer further, they say, since Cooper is missing, then let's look for him. Here the topic is quite philosophical, because it seemed to me personally that Cooper's dark incarnation did not fall into the light, into the space of the good. And before that, he was in a wigwam, in a space where the dwarf is the hand of that guy from the store, Bob is like the incarnation of the devil, an evil spirit.

And all the others are like sinners/victims who got into this wigwam. Corn porridge was also shown there, and corn porridge is the food of those who were in the lodge. Correspondingly.when Cooper was "crumbling" this porridge in the hotel, it was cleansing, and the dark incarnation of Cooper died in the desert.

Plus, James rode a motorcycle to warmer climes, because he believed that there was nothing to do in Twin Peaks, that it was not a good place where there was nothing to find for himself.

P.S. There are a lot of videos on YouTube about the analysis of season 3, and almost all of the videos have headlines saying that season 3 is very strange.

It's amazing: on the one hand, I've heard from all the cracks that the third season is a true masterpiece and a worthy sequel, on the other hand, there are enough comments full of bewilderment and rejection of what I saw. I've watched the first 2 seasons several times since I was 10 years old. The second season, of course, is not a fountain for a number of reasons, but everything else is above all praise, and this is without nostalgia. an image of a city that you want to visit was drawn, which dragged out the main character. yes, there were nuances, there was a surreation, but it all looked organic.
Right here... The biggest loss for me is the sound design. Perhaps that's the way it's meant to be, that music (and good music!) we only hear in Twin Peaks, but in all other locations it's just uncomfortable. these are dirty color palettes of the frame, and uncomfortable silence, and sometimes inept acting, and special effects on the verge of foul, and artificial stretching of scenes. From the first episodes of the season, it feels like I'm watching a Neil Breen movie. But there is hope that the opinion will change for the better towards the end.

It's just a brain explosion, but I like it more and more. Yes, that atmosphere with coffee, doughnuts and Audrey dancing is gone, but it seems to me that the first two seasons of Twin Peaks were enough, we will nostalgically remember the girl in plastic.
Here we literally get into the future, it's so unusual to see Cooper not as a young guy.
I know it's stupid to try to figure something out while watching Twin Peaks, but still, where did so many Coopers come from? Rather, their names are different, but they look the same. I thought you got into a black lodge with your mind, not your body.

I very rarely quit TV series, but I think I'll have to make an exception. It feels like the third season was filmed just for the sake of a fan service - to show your favorite characters 25 years later for nostalgic fans.
On the stage with Andy, Hawk and Lucy, it became physically ill from sur.

In the novel "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" there is an episode in which a pair of scammers shows the audience the play "The Royal Giraffe", which actually consists of several short scenes of antics. And the audience, in order not to be considered idiots who were ridiculously divorced, begin to admire the spectacle and actively advertise it to other residents of the city.
That's about the same impression the admiring comments about the first half of this series make, and indeed about all this psychedelic for psychedelic and surre for surre's sake.

Why do people like to dump negativity so much, it's really not interesting to read how someone doesn't like something. I didn't like a few TV shows, I dropped them in silence, why go to the comments and spoil the fun for those who like it??

I have a lot of questions, who is Doug, why did they try to kill him, and did Bob really create him? What kind of entity was in the glass cube? What kind of pepelac is in outer space with a woman without eyes? Why did a cloud with a reflection of the curtain world break slot machines?

Yeah, the first 20 minutes of the episode were very difficult, Lynch just seemed to have returned to the days of the "Eraser Head" (and this is not good). Thanks to the comments, I found out that it turns out that the second girl was played by the actress who played Ronette Pulaski.

But the second half of the series is well underway, and even something is relatively clear, such as the fact that Dougie was somehow specially created by evil Cooper, and put Teresa Banks' ring on him, so that Dougie would be dragged back to the Wigwam (in the previous episode, evil Cooper said that he would not return to the Wigwam and that-that's what I came up with). By the way, the accident of the evil Cooper somehow reminded me of Mulholland Drive (although it was completely different there).
And even when nothing happens (Jacobi just paints the shovels), it's still interesting for some reason...

What else...Cooper's adventures in the casino are very funny, a scene with Hawk and a couple of real-life vibes from Twin Peaks in the 90s. They showed Gordon and Albert (again the gap, actor Miguel Ferrer did not live to see the show, died in January 2017). And again, I applaud Lynch's choice, the actress playing the FBI agent is very sexy)

P.S. I screamed with whining comments about boobs/nudity like they've slipped into modernity, showtime, schoolchildren and other nonsense, how completely out of touch people are. Guys, I'll tell you a secret, Lynch almost always actively used eroticism and provocative scenes, and was almost an innovator of this topic (Blue Velvet 1986 and Wild at Heart 1990 at least to help you). Do you know why there was no such thing in the original series (although even there, a schoolgirl (!) Audrey said that she was completely naked and offered herself to an FBI agent)? Because the series was kind of on the ABC television channel, where such things are stupidly forbidden and not shown in any way. As soon as Lynch reached full freedom (the prequel film), he immediately stripped not only Laura Palmer, but even the modest Donna Hayward. 😀
