I really liked the series. However, it seems to me that sometimes the screenwriters accept something or I don't understand anything - why did Ragnar decide to sacrifice someone? And even without the knowledge of the victim? Unclear...
The sacrifice itself is very well filmed. There were even goosebumps and tears welled up in my eyes. One of the strongest episodes of the entire season. But I'm glad that Edelstan is still alive, I was so scared when I realized that they wanted to sacrifice him. But why did Ragnar suddenly decide so (did the death of the child affect him so much?) - that's another question...
There is no reliable information that the Vikings made human sacrifices. Yes, this is not a documentary, but passions for the sake of passions were not very impressed. The series is empty.
Of course, I am writing from 2021, which is not very honest, but the excavations in 2015-2017 in Trelleborg and Tissø confirmed the facts of human sacrifice (you can read more on the website of the National Museum of Denmark). and in the series, the sacrifice was filmed according to the stories of the German monk Adam from Bremen, he was just writing about Uppsala and 9 victims of each kind (he himself, of course, did not see anything, so scientists do not take his story seriously). I'm writing this rather not for you, but for everyone who wanders in here
Trust in Ragnar is irretrievably lost, if Edelstan had been killed, then I would have dropped the series, seriously. They know how to take a soul, devils :)
In this series, many have fallen a little in my eyes. Ragnar, to whom it is so important to have 100,500 sons, that he is ready to sacrifice a friend and offend his wife, with whom there seemed to be such love, such love. I understand the times, the mores, but. Rollo is an extremely realistic type. I don't want to generalize and exaggerate, but I will say it anyway - a typical Russian man. I don't give a shit about you, woman, accept it or get out, because I am what I am. I drink, I don't think with my head, I fuck, but I will definitely become great, even if I don't do a damn thing for it. And you will regret that you missed such a treasure. Eternally wounded self-esteem and the desire to blame someone else, someone else is to blame for the fact that he is nobody, not him. My opinion of Rollo has changed since the first series more than once, but this one finally turned me away.
@true-story: And why, I wonder, is it a "Russian" typical guy if we watch an American TV series, and even about Vikings? Maybe just a "typical guy"? And in general, if you have only come across such, it does not mean that such a representative is typical. So don't insult both men and the Russian nation at the same time. Go where the men are better, maybe they are waiting for you there with outstretched arms.
А меня больше всего покоробило это: "Who will bear me my son?".
A terrible tradition of sacrificing people, parting with their loved ones, friends - oh, these believers in incomprehensible gods.
I also liked how many people write here that it was an honor for them to become a sacrifice to the gods, but somehow I didn't notice the forest of hands when that seer said that another sacrifice was needed😏 And the Floki girl said right away: not you, that is, it is honorable only when someone else sacrifices himself.
What kind of obsession with sons? They already have two children. Or is it in case one is killed so that there is a spare? In general, Ragnar something upsets me in this series…
But I was surprised that Siggy, having asked Lagertha for patronage, acts so meanly, encouraging Rollo to compete with his brother. That's really warmed the snake on his chest
It was immediately clear that Ethelstan was being prepared for the sacrifice, but what was not taken was unexpected. But it's nice. Ethelstan himself in the beginning is purely a mud in life: who does not know the mighty Thor and his hammer Myolnir 😄
It was a tragic series. Sacrifices - both human and animal - in my opinion, this is a terrible thing. And pointless. This is life, everything that lives, wants to live more than anything in the world, and it is not created by man, and it is not for man to destroy it. I felt sorry for animals most of all, people at least consciously went to this great and tragic stupidity. Well, it's a pity for Lyfa, it seems that he was the most worthy among them. And who survived? Rollo is a muddy type, Ragnar is a selfish type, Ethelstan is a good person, but it is unknown how long he will live in such an environment and remain a good person. Floki... I don't really like him, but he almost sacrificed himself. His wife was less determined, but he didn't have the same expression on his face as Rollo, they say, are you crazy, so that I sacrifice myself to my beloved?
"It looks like your god has finally come for you.". A scary episode. In the middle of the series, I realized that they wanted to sacrifice the monk and flashbacks began to pop up, as Ragnar said that even if the monk had not agreed, he would have taken him anyway, as on the steps to the temple his wife asked: does he already know? The scene with the girl under the mushrooms, it seemed to me that there was no sex and loss of virginity, she immediately took him for ablution. How she greeted him with the words "I've been waiting for you, monk.". It's all creepy. Especially the fact that the priest loves life more than anyone there. When there was a scene with the king's slave, he said: How can you want to die?? So far, it looks very much like a betrayal of someone you've tamed. Of course, we are a civilized society, and they are not, but still I want to ask, who gave people the right to take someone's life???

the whole episode I couldn't remember how I knew this actor HD

lol
