I don't know why many people are outraged by the ending, for me it all ended so logically and beautifully. It ended with the end of the Viking Age, literally and figuratively, as it should have been... The most amazing thing is that I always thought that Hvitserk was the son who was about to be killed in the end, but he also survived. There were a lot of references to Ragnar, which pleasantly ended the series, because lately not only people, as Ivar said, began to forget Ragnar, but as if the series itself had already forgotten about it with its script. In fact, it was only at the end with these flashbacks with Ragnar that I realized that all the sons really look like him, just not everyone took the best parts of him, they dispersed for each son. Bjorn was a true warrior, just like his father, but alas, he did not have the same mind as him, which is why he lost everything in the end. By the way, his death seems to me much stupider than Ivar's. Ubba has always been a farmer and a traveler. Somehow, he got enough from his father in addition to the above-mentioned qualities: wit, meekness, and wisdom. He and Torvi reminded Ragnar and Lagertha so much in this episode at the very beginning of the series. Even Torvi's pigtails were braided like Lagertha's in the first seasons, or maybe I just want to see what I want, of course) In any case, Ubba is handsome, he didn't end up wasting a good wife, found fertile land, just mission complete. And yes, again, thanks for the Floki, even though the piano is in the bushes, if you think about it carefully, but come on, all the old men have already been cut down. The joke with Ragnar and the boat has gone) Again, it inspired nostalgia, as Ragnar once came to Floki with his dream of England and his whole brain took it out that if Floki built a quiet and fast ship, then they would get a quick victory. Ivar... at the moment of his death, I also thought that what the hell, why the hell did Ivar allow himself to be killed like that?! And then I remembered Hvitzerk's words about his eyes, which turn even bluer when his bones break. Ivar would soon be unable to walk even with a limp, but only crawl, Ivar could not continue to live in this way, he was stupidly tired. And so he died in battle, standing on his feet, surrounded by his army, like a king, so that he could definitely get to Valhalla. In fact, he was afraid that he would not be able to die in a decent way later, even if he discarded the moments with the seer. The hardest and saddest death, because he suffered all this time and so wanted to be a real warrior. Ivar got the most brilliant mind of his father, but also his rage, rigidity, which was really terrifying, also did not allow him to achieve what he wanted to the end. It is strange now to remember how Ragnar wanted to kill him as a baby in the forest, and here he lies dead on the battlefield in England in the arms of Hvitzerk. Hvitzerk seemed to bring into reality a part of Ragnar's soul, which actually converted to Christianity because of Attelstan's influence. Ironically, at the time of baptism, Alfred was wearing the same cross that Ragnar had from Attelstan, then he passed to Alfred, and Hvitzerka calls Alfred by the new Christian name Attelstan. A pleasant reference, of course, but what was the essence of Hvitzerk's existence, apart from the application to one or the other brother, is still not clear. Apparently, the purpose of his life was to finish off Lagertha at some point. 😒 Again, to sum up, I see no point in being outraged, since all the lines were closed, all the characters got a suitable ending, the ending of the same Game of Thrones was much dumber.
P.S. Now I will probably get a bunch of cons for comparing with IP, but still I will take a chance

Что вообще происходит? Рагнар наркоманствует в сарае, Бьерн увел чужую жену, бывший хахаль Аслауг метит на место короля, как-то скандинавская братия не радует.
Ролло и принцесса зато отжигают, совет им да любовь.
