For the McGill Jr. character himself, there should be a more positive ending to this Story (which is what I hope... after all, there are some seemingly even higher orders of "crime and punishment") than there was for Walter White in Breaking Bad, because even if the fraudulent Slippery Jimmy / lawyer Saul Goodman is not a model of piety with his scams, leading also to some tragic events, but there is much less criminal and destructive element in it, than in the Heisenberg mafia, who became totally head over heels and turned into a drug lord not so much for the sake of his family, but for the sake of satisfying his Ego... I reviewed BrBa this year (it is noteworthy that for the first time I watched this series shortly before the start of the release of Better Call Saul, but now I met his last season with him) and I see that Walter himself caused many troubles for himself, relatives and not only with his actions (including even a major plane crash). Including Saul himself, as a result, he can be called a victim of his process of exaltation and fall.
@Akuma2027: The Minusers were worried about Walter, sympathized with him and rejoiced at his success. And his wife was hated, such a hypocritical moralist. Ego, fuck.
I don't think the audience will have a happy ending. Jimmy doesn't change and doesn't learn from past mistakes. Life has given him a second chance to start all over again, but he still returns to the old business. This is his essence, he cannot escape from himself
@fs_ann: In this episode, we were (hopefully) shown all his talent for the last time. And at the end, Jimmy solemnly "hung Saul on a nail." Incredible tension without a single shot being fired. Just great, Gilligan!
It's a very stylish series, it reminds me of the Fargo movie. Jimmy... Jin was once again able to pull off a major scam, and even made an accomplice to the crime of a man who posed a threat to him. Uh, I don't know what this will lead to in the end. And it (the series), in contrast to the abrupt transition in 2008, is very dissonant, and even more so, because this is not a separate excerpt from the timeline of Jin, but a whole series dedicated to him, as if you are watching a new series. I think I wrote everything I wanted.
@Djigman: the right question, but if you turn your ass to the dude who brings you goodies? It's unlikely he'll come to you again. Jimmy has calculated everything exactly, someone is on drugs, and someone is on grub. The last few days have shown how he came to this room, so he was almost kicked into the room by the guards themselves. Grub, it's the same drug!
@dvb030736: what prevented the guard from eating and watching the monitors at the same time, and putting Jim in his place? Here I never sit with my back to the TV when I eat))
@AlbertValeev: 😄 I have the same thing, such a line is a "box" (aka a TV), a stool on which there is food, and I'm on the couch, after the "box" and the stool. The trouble is that from time to time, carried away by watching, something necessarily falls on the floor, on the palace, and every time you have to listen to that "you are a rare pig that you need to eat in the kitchen, at the table, like all normal people." So, when watching this series, I really regret that I don't have Mike Ehrmantraut and his wonderful team as friends, who will clean up everything for you. I have to clean up after myself😃🤣
@Djigman: Why, "such an incredible option"? You write everything correctly, that's what you should have done, and eat sweets and do your job. That's why I wrote to you that you were asking the right question, just further showed my vision of why this happened.
@Djigman: You should have seen how the guards watch the monitors in real life :) They are either reading there, or looking at the phone, or sleeping, having fun as they can)
@Djigman: and why sit down to face them, if SUDDENLY you've been at this damn job for more than the first five years, and what didn't you suddenly see there???)))
Especially considering that you are a stupid guard of a shopping center that is sick to death (and not a nuclear power plant), and the most exciting thing you have seen in your life is how a cleaner took a saleswoman from the flower department in the toilet..
@AlbertValeev: I was also amazed the whole series, and then I realized - there are not only monitors, there is a security panel. All sorts of buttons, switches, an alarm signal - a workplace. If he moved to the other side of the table, he would leave the workplace. And he would have been cut off from the signal box. A psychological moment. And practical, if you think about it
Skill, you won't drink it! And as usual, at the last moment you have to be terribly nervous and improvise on the move, no matter what your name is, slippery Jimmy, Jimmy McGill, Saul Goodman or Gene Takavich. 😃🤣
@apb48: The most interesting thing is that he didn't say a word of untruth. As Ron Weasley said, it's very difficult to compose on the go from scratch.
@kate_archer: Thanks for reminding me. I won't review it specifically, but it looks like you're talking about the moment when Jimmy distracts the guard with completely truthful statements that he's alone, that he doesn't have a family...
The backstory in the series was a little lacking. Yes, Saul pulled off the shoplifting to ensure the silence of the person who knew him. But where did this threat come from at all, because this Jeff didn't seem to have appeared before? Or was Saul so prudent that he was tracking everyone who was connected to Albuquerque?
@Nog: Jeff was already in the fifth season, performed by another actor, he recognized Saul and even forced him to say the famous slogan, from which Saul felt threatened
@Nog: The previous actor is still, IMHO, outwardly an absolutely different character in character. That taxi driver with the sly face could still beat Saul himself, but this one is an omegan almost at the level of Price (the dude with a collection of baseball cards who sold pills to Nachos), there is no threat or danger from him at all
@plizkin1: Another guy from the shopping center asked him to say the slogan, and the taxi driver (Jeff) with the Albuquerque herringbone under the rearview mirror just noticed him, they didn't have a dialogue as far as I remember.
@DrunkNihilist: I don't know why they are being ignored, but they are. In one of the seasons, there was a series where a taxi driver looked at him suspiciously through the rearview mirror. And let's be honest, it's not very difficult to confuse here. As they say here, there was a replacement actor)
Read more for those who, like me, also did not remember the taxi driver (besides, the actor was changed). Season 5, the first episode, from the 7th to the 14th minute. A short retelling. Jimmy is sitting in the middle of the mall at lunchtime and eating a sandwich. Here a stranger approaches him and is so happy (and at the same time like a school bully): "You're a Soul, a celebrity! Wow! I used to live in Albuquerque, your face is on every pillar there. And I'm a taxi driver, Jeff, if you need a ride, call, ask me right away." Jimmy eventually confessed. And he ran to call the vacuum cleaners to be transported again. But he changed his mind and said that he would solve the problem himself. Until that moment, he had the face of a man who had been afraid and shy away from even his own shadow for years. And then his face changed and brightened, became full of determination. Soul was awakened.
The shirt Jimmy tried on at the very end is very similar to the one worn by Tuco Salamanca in the first season of Breaking Bad. Although perhaps my memory is failing.
@MaxPlay: Bright shirts are more the style of Saul Goodman, not the gray Gene Takovich. At this moment, Jimmy seems to be trying on a former image, to which he is somehow attracted.
A dog, it would be worth buying and showing it to Marion. Just in case.😄
I think Jimmy was sincerely saying, to himself, that - "My brother died, I have no wife, no children, no friends, if I die today, no one will care." But, just this phrase, improvisation already went on, ending with a clap of hands and a grin when Jeff disappeared from the monitors.
@dezmond774: What difference does it make what he said if he's going to disappear from the radar? He will no longer visit the dear old lady and has deprived her of formal reasons to seek a meeting with him.
"Crazy? I'll tell you what madness is when a 50-year-old chemistry teacher comes into my office, he's so broke that he can't pull a mortgage, and a year later he has a lot of money the size of a Volkswagen" - and then my heart missed a beat, and then I had to lose a bunch of nerve cells while Jeff lying on the floor 😅😁
As always, a very thoughtful, not banal robbery from the screenwriters. To carry a bun to a guard for several weeks and to track how much he eats it on average, you still have to think of this
I love this series for the ambiguous feelings that Sol causes. What a pleasure to watch his elaborate scams, in which manipulations over people work like a Swiss watch. You can watch the game where Sol is a cat and people are mice endlessly and be amazed at his resourcefulness every time. And when something does not go according to plan, empathize with him as much as possible and squeeze into a chair from tension, because he always walks on the edge of a knife, always at the utmost risk. It would seem that where you are climbing, yesterday you were afraid of the gaze of a random passerby, and today you are ready to start a multi-walk almost at the workplace with the involvement of that very passerby, and after all, all this is solely for the excitement and adrenaline. Even if his whole life is at stake, he is not able to keep his inner demon on a leash.
@sokobath: Sol fixed the problem at the root. Jeff could have hurt him without even pawning or blackmailing him, but just foolishly saying something in the wrong place at the wrong time, and now he will think what to say in crowded places.
Honestly, I thought that in this episode we would already be watching the Straw of the "Breaking Bad" era, but the black-and-white Synabon timeline also pleased me. After all, we know the least about this time, and at the beginning of the sixth season there was no traditional introduction with him. It is logical that the creators devoted an entire episode to holistically develop the topic that intrigued us from the very first episode of the first season. Thanks to my disgusting memory for faces, I didn't notice that the actor was replaced as a taxi driver. But I immediately felt that he made a different impression in this episode. Here came out rather a mattress, but last season the man caused very strong discomfort
But such trifles did not prevent you from enjoying the episode at all! Oh, it feels, it feels that Jimmy lacks the old adventures and scams. How much he contrasted strongly in this episode with the way he was usually shown to us in the future: drooping and lifeless. Here he literally glows, acting out a scene on the phone, building a shopping center scheme and hanging a photo of a fake dog. The final scene with the shirt is good, as if you are living through Jimmy's entire inner monologue at this moment.
The shoplifting operation is beautiful and very much in the spirit of Jimmy! But, as usually happens in this series, everything is not going according to plan and the brave lawyer, and now an employee of Sinnabon, has to get out on the go. I have always been amazed by the ability of the creators of the series to so competently and powerfully build tension in any necessary scene (both moments with Lalo in Jimmy and Kim's apartment are generally the standard of how stress is transmitted from the characters to the viewer).
This series is a prototype of the "Fly" series in Breaking Bad. How delighted I was when I saw that they made the whole series in black and white. And the moment of tension during Jeff's fall was just amazing. It seems that Gene has finally accepted himself and abandoned the criminal path, although he understands that he will have to turn on Jimmy sometimes. And how he wanted to regain his past life again, when he looked at himself with a colorful shirt and tie.
HBO "We Own This City".
@AlbertValeev: Option B, eliminate the threat in the face of a dude who theoretically can pass it, the scheme is complicated, but it's easier than creating a new personality from scratch again
Incredible tension without a single shot being fired. Just great, Gilligan!

I think Jimmy was sincerely saying, to himself, that - "My brother died, I have no wife, no children, no friends, if I die today, no one will care." But, just this phrase, improvisation already went on, ending with a clap of hands and a grin when Jeff disappeared from the monitors.
Slippery Jimmy is back!
