Well, somehow xs after the first two episodes. The picture, special effects, and soundtrack are on the level. But the acting and the stupidest dialogues spoil all the impressions.
@ana_tornwood: yes, and the kid didn't bother at all that the guy, who, in theory, shouldn't have known his name (after all, Katarina asked what his name was), called him by his first name)) If I were the kid, I would immediately put two and two together and dump))
Compared to the book, the narrative is too crumpled and fast. As if there is not enough disclosure of the plot with the help of smoother and thoughtful dialogues. And so, the picture and sound are at the same level. Special effects of abilities for four.
I can't switch from the Theory of big money in terms of the fact that Likholetov doesn't come here as much as he does there.Special effects and what is stylish are most pleasing. It's a little slow for me, but this is just the beginning, I think the dynamics will increase even more.
Here's a nice vibe, some kind of comic even, the operator is just golden, but what kind of funny dialogues and acting. Confident scenes were only in the German line, in the Soviet one everything is underplayed, then overplayed, the main character is generally wooden. While it's interesting, I'll continue, it could have been worse, of course, but we would have finalized the script and its presentation, there would have been a cannon at all.
@andrwell: Well, yes, the series is about the 30s, 40s, without sadistic NKVD officers who torture and shoot everyone they can reach, it's like a wedding night without a bride
The picture is pretty. Despite all the same worn-out film crews along and across one and a half St. Petersburg locations, it still looks good. The soundtrack is also very good. It bothered me how the narrative jumps, but it's like a "tie", so let's say. But the dialogues are just a nightmare. 🤦♀️
The main character is not in any way. The actress is wooden, and against her background, everyone else even seems to play well. There are no questions for Serebryakov and Fomenko, of course. The German line is still more interesting, it somehow looks organic or something. Neumann spoke in Russian in the voice of Maxim Matveev, and it took me a moment to realize that something was wrong 😅
I was surprised by the very non-childish neckline of Anya's dress. The costumers made a very strange choice.
@scarcelyinside: I'm wildly positive about the locations. In the first episode, it was as if they were following the film crew of the "Black Cloud". It's the same student quarter on Vasilyevsky Island. The interiors of the Vorontsova-Dashkova Palace and again for security agencies. Then the Stieglitz Academy, exhausted by all the serialists, and the yards of the Red Triangle. Of the novelties, only the Institute of Optics, the hall of the House of Soviets and, what really pleased me, Fort Konstantin in Kronstadt.
@a_pank: That's it. It's a huge city, and they shoot in two or three places all the time. I'm even wondering what this is about. Street closures are one thing, but interiors can be removed anywhere. I doubt that if producers with money come to some, for example, the Vladimir Palace or the Laval mansion, they will be refused there.
@scarcelyinside: they "heard" you and in the second episode filmed the Moorish Boudoir of the Vladimir Palace as the bathroom of the Neumann Castle. + The Imperial stables in Peterhof are outside and the stable manege is inside, and the coat of arms hall of the Paskevich mansion in the dining room.
Damn, it's so insulting that the main character as an actress is simply no... The project had good potential... Maybe I'll get used to it by the end, but she's zero, even the dialogues don't bother, like her inability to play
It's not bad. :) True, GG is still in the role of a mannequin and has not really flashed anything, but everyone else is pretty lively. The picture is high, yes. The seed and the cliffhanger decide here. :) the main thing is that in the rest of the series, not only the beginning and end of the series are interesting, but also the main content
Like everyone else, I am happy with the picture and everything related to it, including the images and the play of the actors (except for the heroine, I do not like the actress and the manner of playing). I also give a personal plus sign to a film or TV series of any genre, whether it's Victorian steampunk, alternative history or retrofuturism, if there are airships/cepellines and airplanes. But the script is poorly written, of course.
Or they could have adapted something from Pekhov, too. Or from the Root. Although it's already offtop, I just wanted more steampunk with superpowers😅
The picture is very beautiful, in general it resembles several stories at once: The House of strange children and Incredible ones. The man in the mask is good of course)
There is a terrible distrust from the series, I can't believe at all that this is Leningrad of the 40s. Some kind of excessively alternative story. Conversations are unnatural, as if characteristic phrases from the past have been stuffed into modern conversations, and as a result, a strained mess comes out. Sometimes people's actions are like in American movies, on recognizable streets it's hard to believe that real people will behave like this. Some kind of spreading cranberries in the spirit of "uhhh, the evil KGB will come and shoot everyone." There is a tangible aesthetic of white officers, but what the hell are white officers in Leningrad in the 40s? And a bunch of cliches from American movies and TV series that don't look good at all.
The picture is beautiful, you can't take that away... But Russian cinema and TV series didn't have any special problems with this.
The special effects irritated my eyes the whole series, and there are also a lot of questions about the dialogues. I was really looking forward to the release of the series, because I really like the idea and the setting. But after the first episode, the impression is somehow meh. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep watching.
Russian is a very strange language for me, where they speak German and immediately another voice translates it into Russian. Subtitles would be better if they were allowed, as far as I'm concerned
Umbrella Academy + X-Men + historical vibe + Nazi agenda
as a result, the entry for many millions, with a large advertising campaign, will be an unsuccessful attempt in terms of ratings, but on Kinopoisk it will be in the top in terms of views. At the same time, with all the scale of events, with a bunch of flashbacks and backstories, we have already watched a third of the season. For me, it is impossible to reveal such a universe that they wanted to build in 6 episodes, but there simply may not be a second season.
It's curious, of course, but strong emotions and a cool plot can hardly be expected here. I'll be glad to be wrong.
The first episode looks like a slightly unfinished pilot, although the entire series was filmed immediately. The dynamics are sagging and the actors seem to have not quite got used to their roles. And the second plan, unfortunately, overplays the main roles. The duo of Max and Katarina looks brighter than Anna and Ivan, but they are still behaving like stereotypical villains. I really liked the locations, especially when I saw some of them live. I also want to note a slight touch of futurism and steampunk, but unfortunately I haven't seen anything impressive yet, but I would really like to. I think the series has potential, the announcement of the next episode at the end looks very cheerful and intriguing.
That's why I like the German side better. I want to empathize with them. Russian heroes do not evoke empathy at all. It is very interesting to start sympathizing with the first episode of the clearly "bad side"😂
In the book, the accident seemed large-scale, but here you can see how the car stopped...Well, it's not clear why the heroine was so freaked out, there was no danger. I don't believe the actors, even Fomenko plays badly, but it's a pity ( About the camera: if the camera is not on the "rails", but in the hands, then the steps of the photographer are visible. My phone smooths out these moments even then (
I tried to watch, buying into the label "urban fantasy", but I held out for 15 minutes. Firstly, the main character wanted to kill with a brick on the head at about the moment when she was saying goodbye to her boyfriend, i.e. two minutes after screen time. Brilliantly conveyed is the icy arrogance, which it is unclear where a Soviet young lady in her 40s could have come from. She should be playing some kind of countess creature. In short, instant rejection, and this is how I understood GG
Well, the second thing that bothered me was very much - fuck in fantasy, even urban, such strained suspense and "Soviet" gloom (then there were generally other moods!). It would be realism, but you just expect a different mood from fantasy. Anyway, whatever.
I don't know whether to watch it or not. The trailer with an obvious anti-Soviet attitude is very confusing, and then I read that the screenwriter also wrote a script for the movie Trigger. And this is a rare piece of trash. And here the reviews do not inspire optimism. It's probably better not to take any chances and not look. Elena Voitovich, where did this new talent come from? Why is a person without experience trusted with such projects?
I am the person who watched the series to the end, and I responsibly declare that it is not worth watching it. At first it may seem that the series is not bad and will play out again, but no, do not see each other. It gets worse. There are good moments, but they don't save the series. The acting work of some, the locations are beautiful (nature and castles), the camerawork, the soundtrack are the only advantages. If that's enough for you, watch it. But you are clearly not into this project for the plot. The facepams from the dialogues and the script will haunt you at every step, and in the final they will result in a grand cringe.
@Brodyaga202: I think, despite the flaws, it's worth watching, because in addition to the unfinished script and clumsy staging, there are also interesting moments in the series, I liked the game of Linda (Katarina), visual solutions, gloomy atmosphere. Again, this is for my taste.
I was surprised by the number of structurally negative comments, I really liked it, I watched the whole season in one gulp. I can't describe the flaws so beautifully, I just didn't notice them, it was very interesting, but what's next
@george1986: there is no lever there, it is a passing character. - a civilian with access to a secret. - a useless social anchor that slows down the girl's growth. - the Gulag is an evil Gulag. - the screenwriter wanted it that way. - Because.
And here is Anya... 😕
