Personally, I was somehow confused by the episode with cigars and lengthy stories in the spirit of "and I like to plant roses." The military man behaved as if in another second he would either crack himself, or Columbo would break him with a couple of questions, even without straining. It's a little weird, of course.
I TAKE IT BACK, FALK, YOU WERE RIGHT, THIS EPISODE IS EPIC (and all it was worth watching in the original with subtitles).
Because the killer is so awkward! He killed, and he thought that if he didn't pay attention to it, he would take a ride anyway, he would react normally to it, he decided for himself that everything was fine. In fact, every time he sees Columbo, he subconsciously wants to run away, hide behind his usual routine, just to give himself a little time to exhale. It sometimes starts to look more absurd. He called the lieutenant to have dinner, he runs away. He started a mess with the cadet himself, and in the middle of the conversation he runs to wash his hands. And this does not only apply to actions! There is a conversation with Colombo - he will shout at someone in the middle of it, someone will come into the office, he will gladly switch to them. Apotheosis - in general, it is not clear why I got up to get cigars and offer Colombo hdhdhd, I almost died of embarrassment, Colombo also hung up. That's a thoughtful acting game!
Just because he saw no reason to invent a line of conduct for himself, he almost catches the lieutenant in a stupor every time when he neatly surrounds him with questions and attention. And, importantly, he hardly even tries his usual line of behavior, does not pretend to be a fool, although he tries to speak his teeth a couple of times to understand the reaction. Apparently, I realized from the very beginning that this would not be necessary. His remarks are kind of nervous in the presence of Columbo, his voice is just like mine when I'm waiting for something with them in the presence of my superiors and trying to say something on the subject, but not to have a cringe at all, but there's nothing to say
An amazing series and character development, I bow down.
