But Simon and Carl are just crying.

I admire Simon and her support. After beating off "6 months later", the first thought was that, well, for sure, the reason for the murder in this era would be her "help" to Karl, so that he would not suffer.
And when Simone looked at the birthday boy, bedridden, I was convinced of this.

Probably the storyline with Carl and Simone will remain the most touching and heartfelt for me. Despite the fact that I felt very sorry for Beth Ann literally throughout the season, Simone and Carl's relationship, what they went through together, invariably brought tears. Perhaps this is how true love should be, one where there is also a place for friendship, mutual understanding and incredible devotion.
